I'd expect the likes of downing and bent to look at their futures if mclaren is the best we can get .

Was Steve McClaren not once the only person in World football that continued having blind faith in Stewart Downing when England manager? I think Downing would welcome the appointment in fairness.

Whats Hughes ever achieved? And as for Rafa, I will NEVER forgive his disrespectful pursuit of Gareth Barry in the media. McClaren certainly isn't my first choice, but better than those two.

Astonishing view, but I can see why you use that username!

I'd also rather Mclaren than Rafa or Hughes.  Would have taken Jol over all 3.  Still hoping for Ancellotti or Moyes though.

If we're ruling out managers who have tapped a player in the past it will become a very short list

Can someone let wikivilla back to lead the protest !
Seriously though I feel it would be such a letdown if the umbrella man arrives in b6.

I'm hoping that this is the same as when we thought Curbishley would take over ,and G H came from nowhere to get the job. Randy keeps his cards close to his chest,so maybe there's a leftfield candidate we haven't thought of...or maybe that's wishful thinking.

Rijkaard maybe will emerge as the late candidate with mclaren having been the stalking horse- after all he has the teeth for it.

Out of what's left has to be Rafa or we prize Moyes away.

There are potentailly hundreds of managers in the frame. Just because we trot out a few on a list and eliminate them on hearsay and media prattle doesn't make it so.

Of course, we can guess but all we know is it's not Jol, and most likely not Hughes or McLaren. Fine. We need somebody better anyway.

Now Jol has been appointed at Fulham, I'd expect Mark Hughes to be relieved of his notice period and free to talk to us.

I would wager a decent amount that McClaren will not be our next manager, the last thing Randy wants is a huge backlash from the season ticket holders and that's what he'd get if McClaren was appointed. I have a lot more faith in Randy than some panicking on this site, get a grip. For what it's worth i think it will either be Moyes or someone not even mentioned.

So, of the widely talked about candidates, and if we're to believe what we're told, Moyes has said he's not interested, Ancelotti is taking a year out, probably due to his Chelsea settlement, we've said we're not after Hughes, Jol's gone to Fulham and a reliable ITK has said it ins't gonna be Dutch Schteve  To my mind that just leaves Rafa or a leftfield candidate we're not talking about.
