Surely it can't be McClaren. It has to be someone good otherwise we would have just kept Houllier on...Randy must have someone good lined up.

McLaren makes Hughes look like Guardiola by comparison.

I can't believe we'd appoint him.

If the board have been concerned with the downturn in gates in recent years, an appointment like McClaren would seem like an odd choice.

It would virtually guarantee vast open expanses on the Holte and in the Trinity next year.

At first, probably.

But if we were in the top 5 come October the fans would come flooding back.

We're fickle, remember?

Afternoon all- just back from work, have their been any developments today- can we now rule out Carlo and Hughes or are they still in the mix?

My real worry is mclaren may get the job which I think would be hugely depressing .

Cant rule anyone in or out.

Media are making things up left right and centre, not just about us, but Fulham and Chelsea as well. At the end of the day, they know absolutely sod all.

I mean, taking this out, did any of the papers this morning say Freidal was signing for Spurs ?

They are al guessing, they are all making up stories, but they haven't a clue,

Which makes them comparable to Steve McLaren so thats quite a co-incidence. Do you know, Hughes is about 10th on my list, behind CA, MJ, DM, FR, LvG etc...etc... but the longer it goes, the more I am thinking "I hope it is Hughes" just to make sure it isn't brollyman !.

If it is - bye bye Villa - my season tickets will be gone, and I'll be taking up golf !

Well we know Benitez is keen on the job so how could mclaren get it ahead of Hughes or Benitez who are both available? If mclaren gets it then it will be hugely negative thinking.

I also don't want Mclaren.

I want a manager who'll treat going bald with a quiet dignity.

Does anyone even mildly consider McLaren? I haven't seen anyone talking him up so far.
Randy wouldn't do that to us. Would he?

McClaren would not be one of my favourites. But I think he would do a good job. England taints him, much like one of our former managers...

Well thats commendable Legion, but I haven't got £900 to spunk up the wall to watch the Villa take the pee out of me.

I've got my favourites that I will be ecstatic with.
I've got the managers that I'll be happy with
I've got managers I will not particularly like, but will tolerate (Martinez comes into this catagory.

Sorry mate, McLaren would be one step too far for me. There should be at the very least , 50 other bosses we look at before him (and in that, I mean I'd rather go for the likes of McLeish and Dave Jones !). David O'Leary should be ahead of Steve McLaren !.

The one that splits me is Rafa. I hate the bloke, but I think he is a good manager, however, on the other hand, I wanted himto stay at Liverpool as I thought it was funny - he was having a breakdown. If we got him, which rafa will turn up ?. Honestly dont know where I stand on him (prob. around 5th on my list and I'll be happy) but I change each day on this one

Really??!! . McClaren did a good job at Boro looking at where they are now. England was too soon. He won the Dutch league with a tiny club. Wolfsburg were a sinking ship after selling their best players, and his replacement hardly did mutch better.

He is not a fave of mine but he would do a good job.

McLaren's track record - England aside, is actually quite decent.

He's too much of a clown like figure for me though.  Be it the umbrella or the ridiculous, should have been instantly sacked for Dutch accent.(not to mention the inexplicable patch of hair on his forehead)

We need a strong manager now.  One who'll not keep getting in the press for all the wrong reasons.
