I disagree holtepaul, I can't see moyes getting the utd job in a million years and rate him highly but I think Hughes would jump at the villa job and would be free of compensation- either of those would do but I'd take ancelotti or Benitez , either of those 4 as long as it's not mclaren.

I pray that in 48 hours time or so our new man isn't McClaren or someone of that kind.

Just for the record, when I said I'd like to see a Dutchman in charge of the Villa, I wasn't including Steve McClaren as part of that list.

Would be nice to see sky news approach him on how he would feel about joining Villa. And he answered in his English/Dutch voice !!

You forget he's been in Germany. He'd probably fake a Brummie accent and end up sounding like Tommy Hitz.

Although it is not really on topic, has anyone seen the rumours circulating in Spain today.

Pep Guardiola to remain at barca for this year, he will then take a year break before taking over the Qatar national side for 35 million quid a YEAR tax free !!!

Bloody stupid !

Why are people so dead-set against Hughes? His City side played really good attacking football and I'm not sure Mancini's record was that much better than Hughes last year. Obviously they got into the CL this year, but Hughes could well have done that too.

Do Fulham really play such terrible football? Even Blackburn were quite good to watch once he'd been there a couple of years.

I'd favour other options above him - Moyes, Ancelotti or possibly Benitez - but I don't quite see why people are so anti him

Fulham play some good stuff, not quite sure where people have got the impression Fulham are a dull team to watch.

Ancelotti, Moyes, Hughes and Jol are my top 4 choices.

Fulham might play alright stuff, but it's difficult to shake off the memory of the animals he had under his tutelage at Blackburn.

For me it's more difficult to shake off the memory of what a complete arse he was when he played for ManUre.

A big NO to Hughes. Mr Moyes please! Move heaven and earth for him, Mr Lerner!

Would make sense, on an interim basis. If the actual appointment is delayed until well into July. Which hopefully won't be the case.

The problem I have with hughes is that he just feels like a really unambitious choice.

At Blackburn he assembled a team of thugs who kicked their way to a decent league place.

At Man city he spent a fortune and didn't really buy anyone significant other than possibly lescott, but that was for twice his value.

At Fulham he's had a good season and they've played some decent stuff but remember that's with the majority of a team put together by Hodgson who has always tried to play good football throughout his career.  Credit to Hughes sticking with a good formula but I'm not sure he'd do the same coming to a villa squad which is essentially still mostly the players MON added to the squad.  I think he needs to prove himself a little more at Fulham (2-3 more years) before he can be considered a viable choice for a side with ambitions of challenging for the top 4.

On top of that he's a complete knob who I can't imagine myself ever warming to.

I think I'd slightly prefer Moyes, but I wouldn't be upset if we appointed Hughes.  He's done well at stable teams like Blackburn and Fulham, and we're even more stable and have more money.
