Anyone know where on William Hill I can place a bet on the next Villa manager? Can't seem to find it anywhere, surely they've a market for it?

Can't help with William hill but I've had ancellotti at 20-1 on paddy power (bit more in hope than judgment). They are offering the following odds:

Hughes at 6/5
FSW at 3/1
Moyes at 4/1
Martinez at 15/2
Mcclaren at 9/1
Bradley 16/1
Jol 20/1

Or the return of MON at 33/1

They are usually a good guide.  If Ancelotti suddenly moves up to evens I will get excited!

Remind me. What were the odds on Houllier last time around?

Is Hughes out of contract yet ?

Tomorrow 1st of June I understand......

That's what I'd thought too.

A cheap option then

Oh look, another Everall dig at the board. Strange how this attitude seems to change whenever you're on the general's thread.

While you are here Dave W, could you tell us what is the "required opinion" that Malcolm keeps banging on about.  It's a bitch trying to stay on message.

Once again, most managers who are at top teams have got there through merit by doing a good job elsewhere.

Ancelotti had been a manager for 7-8years before he went to AC.  That included getting Reggiana promoted to serie a and getting parma into the champions league on the back of a very good youth system.  He then had a couple of seasons with Juve where he did ok but didn't win anything before going to AC and being a huge success.

I don't know about Rafa or some of the others but the only person I can think of (who's been linked) who landed on their feet in a job and doesn't really have anything to back it up is rijkaard

Anyone but Hughes. Like the bastard nephew of MON returning. His blackburn side were awful and if you can't make the top4 with Citeh's mega-money you're not gonna do it at villa

Before todays news broke, I said Ancelotti.

Now we know more, I'd like to put my thoughts - which to be frank, are simple.

1. Ancelotti. If you can get him it is a no brainer, I will personally cartwheel naked through my village if we get him. He is one of the best in the world - I am not particularly interested if Young stays or goes - but you watch him sign a contract if Carlo turns up !.

2. If its a no to 1

I would be ecstatic with either David Moyes or Martin Jol , who, quite frankly, it should have been in the first place.

3. If it's a no to No 1 & 2 - I'd be more than happy with Benitez or a similar type (in this I mean a Riykeard or similar

4. If it's a no to 1/2/3 - I'd be OK with Hughes or Martinez - both not exactly gonna light up the international press, but could do a job for different reasons

5. If 1/4 don't happen and we employ McAlliser , McLaren , Curbishley or similar - then they've just lost 4 season ticket holders.

But, at this point, I am more than optimistic it will be one of my first three (Moyes probably) , I've spoke to two Everton fans today who think he will come to us.

Totally agree greg. Hughes would be a total nightmare. Really anti Hughes. He and Moyes would be bottom of my list, with Hughes edging onto the unacceptable list. Ancelotti please. Followed by Benitez. Maybe Moyes 5th choice. Lambert, Coyle would be in front of Moyes for me.

Not Hughes. Please not Hughes.

I would not want Hughes to join. Ancellotti please, if not him Moyes or Benitez.

Agree 100% (apart from Coyle maybe).  So call it 85%.

This is 100% how I feel, apart from the not renewing part.

Benitez, Jol and Anchelotti would all spend a bomb. I think the success Moyes has had with a relatively smaller kitty goes to show if we're thinking long term book balancing before cash destroys the beautiful game then he's our man.

If it's great football you want then Anchelotti, he could draw in the signings, whether we'd have the cash is another thing.

It's just a shame that we'll never get to see Gerrard's final product, I think it could've been great 2 seasons from now.

Oh look, another Everall dig at the board. Strange how this attitude seems to change whenever you're on the general's thread.

Well as Ancellotti and most of the others, except Moyes are out of contract, they too are cheap options in comparison.

I don't suppose you'd realised that mind.

It was hardly the most difficult thing in the world to spot. Now do us all a favour and don't come back unless you have something to add to this topic apart from fantasy and poison.

Serious question, the one name missing from that William Hill list was McCallister - anyone know his odds.

If it is more than 100,000 to 1 I'll put a £10 on it.

I'd be mightily peed off - but at least I could give up work !
