Double Post I know, but worth placing on here for those who are not registered to read the General`s posts

" General Krulak here:

1.  Let me attempt to reiterate what I have been saying on these Boards for over 4 years.  a)  Please don't believe everything you read in the media.  Simple as that.  The media is out to sell papers and they do that by picking up on rumours and publishing them as "facts."  As long as they can stir the pot and be right 25% of the time, they are happy!  Well, they are stirring some of our Fans up to a frenzy pitch so I would imagine they are happy.  b)  Your Club is NOT going to conduct any negotiations, solve any issues, or deal with any player actions, in the media.  We do NOT conduct our business in the media.  You have watched for years now how Randy and the Board operate...we do not conduct our business in the media.  When it is time to announce a decision, we announce it to our Fans first.  c)  We just completed our season last weekend....it is not "dithering" to take a bit of time to think through the many issues that have come up during that season.  I realize that some of the Fans think it is simple to make one decision or another....and more power to the Fans who think that.  Unfortunately, things just don't work that way...not if one is a professional and one has to make decisions for the good of the Club.  d)  We are NOT a "feeder Club".  There has not been a quality player leave the Club that we didn't offer a deal as good or better than they received from another Club.  BUT, if the player is intent on leaving the Club, it does no good to try and force him to stay.  I am sure that every fan understands the simple fact that at some point in time, a contract runs out and at that point in time, a player who wants to go will go...and will go with little or no payment to the losing Club.  As a business, you try to maintain loyalty of the players but, at the end of the day, it is the players who can make the call.  That is simply English football.  e)  I was with Randy this past week.  There is a Villa man through and through!!  He is dedicated to the Club and to what is good for the Club.  He has put his own life and resources into this Club and I think he has done one helluba job.  Give the man a chance...he will let you know what is happening...but will not do it in the media."

My thoughts (i.e. VCTM) Patience is a virtue but one which us ardent fans find difficulty in adhering to - we need to trust in Mr Lerner else we might as well be looking for a new owner  - Lord only knows what we could end up with.

Personally I like Martinez - if he could work alongside Houllier it may just be worth a shot.

I think the the last post may need better editing. For the record, the last 2 paras were not the Generals quotes.

Edit. Has duly been edited :D

I think my biggest worry is that if it isn't Ancellotti (and realistically it won't be), the "I WANT!!!" footstamping wll begin again and whoever does take over will be getting stick from the off.

Ancellotti has had stick already on here as well, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'm definitely on two minds. Houllier's clearly been trying to change the style in the way I want and it may be better to see that through.

But there is something underwhelming about him and his record. I agree he hasn't had a summer transfer window, but his Liverpool record isn't promising. He was able to buy good defenders, but his best players were inherited. His main purchases were, I think, cisse, diouf, diao, barmby, biscan, Kirkland, heskey. Can't remember other big signings, but his young French signings weren't much of a success: le tallec, etc. So I'm not sure that's the reason to justify him staying.

On balance, I think I'm probably just about in the 'stay' camp, but it's close!

No, but a lot of people have been getting worked up over Ancellotti and I just can't see him wanting to come to a best of the rest team when better options will bcome available.

Dave, I am not one who wants Ancelotti BUT if he wants to remain in England where else would he go? Only think of Spurs if Harry goes. Otherwise we are a very good option for him.

I hope GH stays if not Moyes for me

Whatever happens, I don't think the next manager will have the same almost universal support MON had when taking the job.

Even if it was an Ancelotti, Van Gaal or similar (and that would be quite a coup).

Billic is an interesting shout.  I could see him trying to build something from the bottom up.  Young enough.  Has a decent reputation etc.  However I have no idea whether he is any good, or got lucky with a golden generation of croatian players.

I'd like to think that we would give a new manager a chance. Even if we appoint someone I'm not so keen on like Benitez, Moyes or Hughes I'd see enough in them to see the board's thinking.

If we make a shockingly substandard appointment like Curbishley or heaven forfend McAllister then that would be where a new boss is not afforded a chance.

Frank Rijkaard was strongly linked with us a couple of weeks ago, which speculation doesn't seem to have been repeated anywhere... Neither, as far as I know, has he actually gone so far as to distance himself from the position?

What do we think? Apart from the obvious - i.e. if we're going to have shomeone shpeaking Dutsh, better FR than Shteve MacLaaren - could he be a realistic proposition? And would he be any bloody good?

For: could be brilliant (see Barca)
Against: could be disastrous (see Barca... and everywhere he's managed...)

Without a doubt.
