Must say I have sat on the fence or been on both sides most of the season with GH. The lowest point was the Sunderland game after that you had to stick with what you had and back him. To the Boards credit this is exactly what they did. However coming firmly off the fence and nothing to do with what I would prefer I will stick my neck out on events to unfold.
I fail to see how Randy can take a risk with Ged's health it is completely beyond any sensible business decision to do so. There is however obviously a good working relationship with Ged and Randy and probably the CEO. They are not a hire and fire team so I would think it plausible that they have considered options where Ged remains involved but not on the front line.
The media have not got a clue as usual (like me) on who will be lined up that will probably depend on the arrangement but as the General has said Villa do not do business via the media. But again for what its worth it will not be GMac or Curbishley.
This will be an interesting week!  ;)

There are a lot of very sensible, get-able and exciting options out there.  For me though, there is still a certain amount of excitement about GH's plan (yes, I really do think there is one) and, as much as I've been pissed off this season, I think we have still shown enough promise to be heading in the right direction.  However, the health issue is just too big to be ignored and, unless it's all been over-dramatised, is too big a risk. GH should be, and deserves to be the manger, but his health and Villa's duty of care places too big a question mark over his position.

I think it's entirely possible to get somebody better than Houllier who isn't Ancellotti.

Interesting that Rafa Benitez has just turned down the Atletico Madrid job, stating that he wants to return to England.

Went for Moyes. I would vote Ancelotti but that's unrealistic. There's not a chance we'll get him.

It is. I really wouldn't be surprised to see him as our manager if Houllier does leave.

The more I think about it, the more I'd be tempted to get down the bookies.

He's a Madrid boy and with next to no chance of getting the Real or Barca job, Atletico aren't a bad option. Valencia his former club aren't looking for a coach.

Apart from us, I can't see him interested in any other job unless he wants to go to Everton, should Moyes heads to B6. Not sure how the scousers on both sides would take it. Only other option is Blackburn, if, and it's a very big IF, the Indians really do have money to burn. Possibly a shock move to Newcastle but it really would be a shock unless they find he owners.

My guess is he's on a promise.

If Gerard is deemed unable to return on health grounds (which is my gut feel) I would like to see someone who shares his footballing ethos and has a broad knowledge of the European as well as the domestic transfer markets to continue the groundwork he has done rather than start afresh

I would favour this sort of appointment over a Moyes type who always struck me as a good motivator/poor mans M'ON

Ancelotti would fantastic but don't see him fancying the job so will go for Rafa!

We need a new impetus a name that will get everyone talking about Villa, someone able to convince all and sundry on his reputation. Someone who has achieved and not just talked the dream based on a few dodgy seasons in Scotland.
And we need him quick.
No idea who miind but if Randy has hard enough balls he should.

The only thing MON has over Moyes is self promotion. Moyes is also from the 21st century. Guardiola he ain't but neither is he stuck in the 1980's.

Given this mornings events, I'm doing the metaphorical 2 + 2 sum.

With reference to Benitez can I be the first smart-arse to say "out of the frying pan and into the fire?".

Benitez has a track record beyond any other contender bar ancelotti, who may not be a contender at all! But if carlo does want to stay in england only the spurs job is likely to be mor appealing.

I really don't like Benitez as a bloke though. At least with either case it wouldn't feel like this year's transition was a complete waste. I wonder if we'd be in for some Spanish players as a result? Not sure who mind. Someone like javi Martinez from Bilbao would be great, but can't see it. Perhaps boateng from sevilla?

Break the bank for Ancellotti! This might be the last chance to hang on to the coat-tails of the big-money clubs. He'll attract good players to the club, even without european competition, and the "wow" factor would certainly be present!

But we'll end up with Moyes. Or FSW. Or someone.
