If we can get him then he's about the best available. still feel he'll have better offers than us though.

agreed greg, a top boss but i doubt he would be here long term once a bigger european club came in for him.

He has clearly stated he wants to manage in England. So i can not see a bigger club at the moment than Aston Villa in the premiership who are soon to be managerless and have massive potential ......

Managing at Villa in our current position is not the same as managing Chelsea. People seem seduced by the name without giving much thought to his suitability for the task in hand.

The reason Managers like the PL is that generally they get paid a lot more here than elsewhere.
I think Villa is potentially the bigest job around in England after Chelsea at the moment.

Agree Chris, any manager is a gamble His track record in Italy is pretty good , he would attract good players and might even persuade  some that we want to keep to stay.
Rgarding having a vision for the club long term and carrying out a plan I am not so sure.

I sort of agree. Although England gives the Manager a chance to have more say in the direction of the club. eg transfers, youth etc

I think that is where the appeal is. but you are right, the money also helps massively.

To be fair, I think people are actually seduced by the track record.

Is that a track record of rebuilding mid-sized, mid-table Premier League teams during a time of financial restraint? That's the job we require, is he the best man for that?

I think so on the basis that he's a better manager than any of the other possible candidates.  We're already a mid-table, mid-sized PL club - Hughes or Moyes or Martinez won't change that.

No potential about it -  we are!

However, I can see Ancelotti sitting tight and waiting for Spurs once 'arry becomes England manager, as is widely expected.

That's a very difficult question to answer for any potential new manager, ultimately you can only go on what he has achieved in the past and ask yourself would that be a benefit to Aston Villa!
Ultimately the board has to decide what direction/vision they perceive the club should have and then try and match that perception to the available managers... easy isn't it!

As I love Villa to become English version of Barcelona, I wouldn't object if we become English version of AC Milan as they got lot of class.

Let hope Paulo Maldini will be interested in Aston Villa coaching job and if he is very lucky he can play in Aston Villa old star with Paul McGrath :)
