I wouldn't go massively over the top, but Patel is not good enough.

I agree. Monty is a credible alternative but he is a liability in the field and with the bat so in the one day team they pick portly Samit who at least knows which end of the bat to hold.

I would rather we play Borthwick or the kid Briggs, Patel is a waste of a shirt (a large one @ that) and we have to stop picking bits and pieces cricketers

We've got the Test selection spot on, the one-dayers are a work in progress.
Not sure of Trott, he's too one paced and struggles to accelerate when needed, Patel must have run out of lives by now as well.
Not too worried though, collapses happen to the best sides now and again, it's how you rebound that matters.

My view is that of the team is that I'd have as definite starters Cook, Kieswetter(I do have faith in him), KP, Bairstow, Bresnan, Swann, Dernbach. Then we've got to find the other four places around that.

Not completely sure about Bairstow just yet, but otherwise yes, I'd agree with that.

I'm giving Bairstow the shout, because I think he's well worth persevering with. I think the others have shown enough class.

I think that we're starting to see the Twenty20 generation coming through. Bairstow, Taylor at Leicester, the lad at Somerset whose name escapes me etc. These are players who are not afraid to hit over the top from the 1st ball and not play themselves in thus reducing strike rate.

I read an interview with Bopara recently and he said how these players have forced him to change how he plans a one day innings. He know looks to attack from the start whereas before he would have started more slowly.

I'd also drop Kieswetter for Prior. Kieswetter may get the occasional good score but makes far too many mistakes behind the stumps. Prior is a nudger and nurdler in the way that Colly used to be and the runs that he'd save behind the stumps added to an ability to rotate strike makes him a better all-round option.

For what it's worth, I'd go with this 12 and decide on spin options etc on the day:

Cook, Somerset lad, KP, Taylor, Bopara, Bairstow, Broad, Prior, Swann, Bresssie, Borthwick & Dernbach

My 13 would be

Cook, Bell, Taylor, Buttler, Bopara, Bairstow, Broad, Foster, Swann, Woakes, Bresnan, Bortwick and Dernbach

I will point out, I'm only including the players available in the current squad.

I'd rather play Panesar than Patel.

Built the innings back up again after a terrible start, and once again thrown it away by losing Bopara and KP in quick succession.

Got back in it, then threw it away again. Very frustrating innings. We are probably 40 short, going to need to bowl very very well.

Kies getting out after a good start is so frustrating, although I still wouldn't drop him.
