Bollocks. Rain stopped play. It's my mate's fault for organising a barbecue today. Every time he has a barbecue, it pisses down.

Playing again now, still four more wickets for victory, or maybe only three if Solanki can't bat again.

The win was crucial after the points deduction.

From an England point of view, thankfully neither Trott or Bell were badly injured.

It doesn't however bode too well for Egbaston's chance of securing future lucrative international games.

Most of the problem came from the new drainage system put in at the behest of the ECB, that and having a massive new stand in place which has changed the atmospherics meant that the groundsmen underestimated the amount the bpitch should have been watered. It was too dry and cracked very quickly.

Thet shouldn't have too many problems from now on, they should know how quickly the rest of the pitches wil dry out as they prepare them.

Report on Cricinfo say that the Bears are likely to appeal the penalty. From the outside looking in it would appear to be a fair decision but given the margin of victory, I do wonder if it should be reassesed. The Bears scored 218 more runs than the Pears so it can't have been all that bad.

The fact that two players were injured won't help the Bears' chances of getting the penalty overturned.

I heard we are appealing on the basis that some journo mentioned it to the pitch panel - the umpires did not actually report it as a poor or unfit wicket. A lot is been made of the Solanki injury but did he just not deal with a bouncer very well ?

Grauniad said he ducked but the ball didn't bounce as high as it should have due to the pitch.
