W
faulkner may or not be a poor CEO but MON walking out, Kevin McDonald, Rapid Vienna, Newcastle, conceding in the last minute, not being able to keep a lead, Man city away, Liverpool, Dunne, Warnock, FA Cup, The Shit etc etc are nothing to do with him.

Agreed, but we've seen a lot of this sort of thing recently. When things are going badly there is a tendency to lash out in all directions, to blame all and sundry and to blow small issues out of all proportion.

I am hoping that the club aren't allowing themselves to get sucked into this mindset. It's a time for cool heads and clear thinking.
I agree every one is looking for people to blame, for me its down to the manager, if we get relegated it will be down to the Chairman not taking a decision.

This seems fair to me. I can see us continuing to play like shit and Lerner pulling the trigger too late.

I must say I didn't expect him to walk the plank after the Wolves game.

I would like to see that come to pass, but as it wasn't really on the agenda pre Saturday it would look too much like a knee jerk reaction on the basis of one result. We know it cuts deeper than one result, but perception is everything.

However:

The fact that the topic is even in the public domain at the moment (for the 2nd time in less than three months) means the board/ RL can't avoid the idea even if they'd like to. RL had (and still has) the vast majority of fans onside I'd imagine, despite the issues of last summer. That could change if he exacerbates the current problem for any longer than he absolutely must, just in the mistaken belief that he needs to be seen to stick by GH come what may.

Even a comprehensive defeat to Everton may be the breaking point.

A good result will obviously put it on the backburner for a while yet. He may even be fortunate enough to park the decision until the summer if GH can scratch out the 2/3 victories we need in the last 8 games. The games v Newcastle, Stoke, Wigan, West Ham and West Brom look absolutely crucial in that regard.  I'd like to think even if we took it to the last game v Liverpool at home we could pull it off, as they've been very hit and miss on the road this year.

But if we're genuinely dependant on that game I wouldn't fancy the current manager to engender the requisite fight or positivity required.

has there ever been a manager that has had so many fans AND players against him?

even when we last went down under McNeill, i dont think he was as unpopular with fans and players

the thing that gets me is Faulkner's statement, we are fucked with this tube, we will struggle to get another point with this baffoon in charge, everybody can see this and he comes out with "he is our best chance of keeping us up"

we need to sack him, appoint somebody, even just for the 8 games (6 really - we need all our points before the last 2 games) and just give this whole place, fans and players alike a big fucking lift

it is our last straw to clutch

Crucially for villa there are actually a fair few managers available out there. There's a right merry go round occurring in Germany freeing up van gaal, magath (allegedly sacked for irregular transfer deals though) plus others. Jol and Klinnsmann also come to mind.

Whilst I agree with the Houllier philosophy his application has been appalling.

Fuck van gaal off for an idea. He alienated better players than houllier ever had.

Pat Murphy is another Oliver Holt. Never liked us but he is quite right about "him".
Mr Murphy sticks the knife into the Villa with relish whenever he gets the chance, he's a bitter baggie and just cant hide it. Throwing in his tuppence worth at the passing of Bobby Robson he happened to mention that it was still a 'personal regret' that Ipswich hadnt won the league when they deserved to in 1981. Grinding his axe at such a moment was cringingly disrespectful, but he just cant help himself.

Sounds like the lyrics to that Billy Joel song.

Yes I agree. We also nearly always lose when he is the reporter at our games on R5. Witness Saturday....knew we were doomed as soon as I heard his dulcet tones over the airwaves from VP

So Gerard is our best chance of staying up according to Paul Faulkner?

If that's what he genuinely thinks, we're in even more trouble than i thought.

Stop dicking around, Randy, pull the trigger.

Sometimes things just don't work out, and this hasn't.

I'd make doubly sure with a double tap to the forehead

Or perhaps more pertinently, REM's "It's The End Of The World As We Know It" (and I feel shit)!

Downing has been class for us this season, better than I've seen him ever for Boro.

Downing IMO has like the rest of the team been average at best.

No player this season has been "class"

Was Downing class on Saturday when was at fault for the cross going in for the goal or bottling challenges again in the second half as usual??

I'm sure he just wants us to be where we belong & put all this bullshit behind us.
