Did anyone just chuckle at someone quoting to Chris just then West Ham and Wolves are 5th and 6th in the form guide when that's the tried and tested Smith method of always quoting the form guide when we're in a bit of poor form!
I'm currently physically incapable of smiling or laughter.

It's a differnt point though. It's the now widely held expectation that all three of those sides will escape that I found interesting, it just shows how people react to the latest set of results. If we do this again after the next round of games we will probably get a different outcome.
The form guide is a useful indication of how you have done recently which can give you some hope for the next game but it changes very quickly. I used it as a counter to the people who said we'd been shit recently when comapred to many others we'd done Ok in that period. We were in the top 6 after Blackburn now I imagine we're nearer the bottom and it has only been 2 matches.
The teams in the bottom group are there because they have been inconsistent, good results, indifferent reults and shit results in equal measure and I expect all of us to be involved up until the last couple of games. So I was surprised at the level of confidence in those 3 all getting out of it.

A couple of weks ago I said on one of these posts that I thought we'd need 43 points to be absolutely okay. I still think that - and more so, since the teams with forward momentum are continuing to look strong for the relegation battle whereas there is a limpness about the Villa attitude right now.
If this season goes to the last two games, we're screwed. That's why we have a real chance in the "6-pointers" coming up against WHU, WBA, Wigan and Barcodes. The question is: have we got the collective cahunas to take these chances??!
We would have to grow whole new sets of fulsome, swinging and bristly bollocks to win our six-pointers, as all we've shown so far this season are shrivelled sultanas rattling around dusty, dried-up sacks resembling the bags under a dead old hag's eyes.
Ive done the BBC Prediction thingy ,
and theres some really big games to play down there yet .. massive ones ..
my table looks like this
Magpies 39
Baggies 38
-------------------
Blose 37
Blackburn 35
wigan 32

To be fair Chris, you are the Lawro of H&V when it comes to predictions. Based on Wolves having a dire away record, you weren't expecting us to lose on Saturday (and to be fair, neither was I).
There are a lot of games to be played between teams down at the bottom so it maybe that 40 points is enought to stay up. We need to make sure that for our home games we have left that a rallying cry is made by the club that for those games we fill the ground and stay with the players for the 90 minutes. It is pointless or doing anything else.
I know Saturday was awful but our support wasn't there either. I am convinced that if the fans turn up the players will as well.
It will take someone other than Houlier or one of the players making the call though. Martin Laursen making a speech on the pitch beforehand might do.

"Where are you? WHERE ARE YOU? Let's be having you!"
Wigan, Blackpool, Birmingham.
As it stands its Wigan, Small Heath and the Wolves, however I think the Wolves willsneak out of it and Blackburn will drop in.
We're in a right mess, but I still don't think we're going down.
In fairness to Chris, the Wolves are garbage as we saw on Saturday. They're limited in the extreme, which makes the result and performance even more horrendous on our part.
However, I think Blackburn are on the slide. SHA and Wigan two definites for me.
We'll be alright on 44 points or something poor like that, sitting 14th or 13th. Wins against Newcastle, Stoke and Wigan, with draws to the rest and defeats to Arsenal and the Dippers.
That said, we're always likely to beat the Albion. It is the law after all.
Just been listening to the Radio 5 usual Monday football feature with 3 or 4 'pundits' plus Gabby Logan and they did a piece on who they think will go down. All were agreed on Wigan, they were then split between Blackburn and Bloose, and the scary thing was they all thought Villa would go too.
We will unless we start pulling our fingers out. A point against Everton and then 3 against Newcastle are a must. Get that and we'll be alright.
Any of four teams with names beginning with W.
I also did the predictor and was fairly pessimistic with our results. Granting us only 1 win, home v Wigan, we would just go down. If we win two, say either Newcastle or Stoke at home, we'd just stay up. There are a lot of games to go between fellow strugglers which will have an impact. So I think we need to win two and draw two to have a chance with 41 points. Newcastle could have abig say in it - they have to play all four West Midlands teams and Blackpool battling for survival. If they don't win a few, they could get sucked into it themselves.
