We knew Bolton would be strong in the air - Heskey should have started at centre back.

predicted that goal... appalling defending yet again...

so predictable... if i can fucking see it, why cant that idiot manager...

How can you blame the manager for poor defending from the only defenders we have fit? Who would you have played there that would have prevented that goal?

That's missing the point, though, Dave.

A bit of coaching at defending corners might do the trick.

Interesting you know which defenders to coach then, please inform us

How about all of them?

I'm sure if we had 4 regular defenders every week they would adopt to a system, each other  and the goals against would decrease.

If

So you're attributing our feebleness at defending set pieces entirely to the fact we've had injuries at the back?

aided by the fact we have one player who hasn't played for half a season, another who has been right back when he's played, another who I have seen for the first time, and our 4th choice cb who has been playing at left back mostly is the senior defender.

So, basically, yes, then?

Er.....All of them?  WTF are we doing on the training ground that makes us totally inept at defending corners?  You can't blame the manager for defensive mistakes, up to a point, but this is far more than that.  It happens every fuckin week!

Well I could explain it to you in great detail but my guess it I'd be wasting my time.

Oh ok then.  So you have all the answers but just don't wish to share them.  Why bother in the first place then?  Our defending at corners is awful.  FACT.

No players on posts which comes from the manager. As for poor marking you can copach until you're blue in the face but if players don't do it in a game, there's little the manager can say or do.

I think Villa have done well, Coyle soon reverted to old Bolton with the up and unders. Did we change the set up when we scored if so why, we were all over their defence.

Any chance we could employ Martin Laursen as coach sure he'd sort the defence out.

If any is going to get sent off in that match, it'll be Ellmander, I reckon.

Hopefully we'll get Downing on any set pieces rather than Ash second half - if Ash will let him have the ball that is

We have played some really good football at times in that first half and on the balance of play should be ahead at the break. Ashley Young looks very sharp as does Albrighton and Walker. Ive been happy with Reo Coker again too. At the back Young has been excellent as has Clark. Baker has made a few mistakes including the goal and we need more from Delph. Bent missed a sitter and scored one. Its what he does.

The biggest worry in that half was Friedel who looks these days to have lead in his boots. This is a day when we need a keeper to dominate in the air but that was never his strongest point.

As the first half has shown it can be difficult to defend against the wind. I always preferred to play into the wind, with the wind it can be difficult to keep the ball in play.

Big half for us ahead. There looks sure to be more goals, Wheater and Robinson are having mares for Bolton. Holden though has come into the game while Davies is always dangerous.

The problem does seem to be in the 6 yard box, I dont see what system we are trying to use at the back

I think it was Patrice Bergues who was Houllier's defensive coach in his best spell at Liverpool, and I think worked with him at Lyon, too.

He tried to get him to join Villa, but he opted not to. Maybe he'll try again in the summer.
