All these appeals today are a bit out of the spirit of things, they're clearly doing nothing to respect the time honoured British tradition of taking it on the chin and then writing a stern letter, it's just not cricket!!

The Japanese appeal was that the judges had judged it a fall and not scored it and the Japs argued it was an unorthodox dismount. When the judges reviewed it they realised it could be one and had to score it. Nothing to do with crowd.

Gymnastics is all very impressive, but like diving etc, I don't like the fact that the scoring is based on people's opinions.  How on earth for example, do you get to the position where a team can appeal and then move up the points table?  Can we appeal the FA Cup final against Chelsea?

Gymnastics and Diving both belong in a separate "Competitive Arts Olympics" (copyright Ulysses Karl Redsox) along with any other event where the winner is decided by someone's opinion.

Whilst its no doubt hard work and looks fun to play, as a spectator sport there can't be anything in the Olympics duller than Water Polo.

You could argue that Boxing, Football, Hockey and anything else that relies on referee spotting and interpreting a foul (in his opinion) come under that rule.

EDIT - the list is actually at the start of this thread

I'm watching on norwegian TV with unintelligible commentary, it was a guess, had no idea what the complaint was, doesn't seem very sporting by them tbh, guess I just don't like the idea of a ruling being overturned if you have a bit of a sulk about it, doesn't seem to fit in with the spirit of the olympics, sounds like they were techincally right to appeal though...

Refereeing is different to judging.

Boxing is one that I'm unsure of. However, I'd hope that the rules and scoring system could be tweaked in order to make it elligible for the main Olympics when I become head of the IOC

A sport that I've previously had very little appreciation for but am now in wonderment as to how they can play it so well is hockey.

How they can control such a small ball so well with such a thin stick is beyond me. Must be like playing headers and volleys with a ball bearing.

With only one side if I remember my old school sports lessons as well.

None

There haven't been any since 1992

And only right-handed.

I played defence at school on the basis that I could hit the ball the furthest. As an adult I played in goal on the basis that I was the fattest.

I still have a pair of goalies kicking pads if anyone wants to make me an offer.
