Seb Coe has reiterated that Stuart Pearce is under no political pressure whatsoever to pick Beckham. The new rule that has been rushed through about having to select one player who is 37, comes from London and is called David is purely to show respect to older footballers, to the city where the games are being held and to the patron saint of Wales.

I don't have a problem with Beckham being on the team.   I don't even have a problem with him being here, there and everywhere during the Olympics.  However, he should not be in consideration for lighting the flame at the opening ceremony - and apparently he is.

I would like to see "Mr Methane" light the Olympic flame from a distance of 20 feet away with a huge Olympionesque flame throwing fart.

Watching the torch relay, it's been heartening to see the various community representatives, volunteers, sports people and brave souls who have suffered misfortune or ill health, carrying the torch.

But above all else, nothing summed up the spirit of the Olympics in Britain more than American pop star Will I. Am, running through Somerset with the torch and texting at the same time.

Beckham must be green with envy.

The torch passes thro 'Nam and Gloucester today and tomorrow.

Some school buses to and in Gloucester tomorrow have been cancelled due to the road closures.

Therefore, in order to get his daughter to an exam, my mate is going to have to drive down to Chepstow, over the old Severn Bridge, up the M5 and into the back of Gloucester that way.

Its a disgrace that kids with exams are being messed around because of this pointless torch bollocks.

Why are we recreating something that was devised by the Nazis for propaganda purposes anyway ?

I'm normally as cynically underwhelmed by things as the your typical H&V poster, but I think the UK hosting the Olympics will be right up there as one of the great sporting memories of my lifetime.

I was lucky in the first round of ticket allocation and I've managed to add to that by getting some basketball and volleyball tickets today.  Not my first choices but I'm determined to enjoy the experience.  However, Thursday 9th August is the day as far as I'm concerned: tickets for the evening athletics session, including the finals of the Mens' 200m and 800m - and maybe a British gold in the triple jump.  Can't wait!

Watching BBC1 right now. Wheres the One Show gone?
Thousands of idiots at Worcester cricket ground to see a bloody torch. They all look like the same sort of wankers you used to see on Henman bleedin' Hill.

Whats this ? Elephants waving Union Jack flags at a steam train? What an absolutely bloody stupid mental thing to do! What the hell is wrong with everybody?

For someone who couldn't care less about the olympics, you sure do post a lot of stuff about them.

I agree.   I too am lucky enough to have tickets for the Rowing, Boxing and Athletics and can't wait.   I think this is the sort of event that shows off Britain at its best and I was hoping that the normal cynicism would not occur.   I think by and large though, with the scenes at the torch relay, that most people are really behind it and determined to enjoy this once in a lifetime opportunity.

My colleague at work is taking part in the relay in Wolves next month.  This will be THE highlight of her life I can assure you and because of all she has gone through, is a richly deserved honour.

Roll on July !!!

Shawn Johnson has had to retire from gymnastics at age 20. So there's one less reason to watch that so-called sport.

Saw her interviewed on TV today. wow, she's cute
