It was good but for £200,000 a week i would expect Shriek to put the ball on the moon for that much money so all those getting turned on by it calm down.

It was a fantastic goal, taking everything into consideration. The timing, importance etc. There have been a few similar before though, and its not like we have never seen this before.

Gary Cahill v Blues has been mentioned
Also, Rivaldo scored a screamer with very nearly the last kick of the game/season for Barcelona, which ensured they would be playing in Europe the following season. Peter Crouch has scored a few like that too. So the hype is a bit OTT, but what do you expect, its Man Utd!

Great goal, but yes, overhyped because it's Rooney.

To be fair i was texting my mate during the game and said that Rooney had stunk the place out again and that he could well be finished as his touch, everything seems to have deserted him

Then he scored and as much as i hate everything to do with United i jumped off the settee and said "Fuck me" as it was a tremendous goal

Just a pity it was by him for them

Oh and for the record i thought fatty and Milner were crap also

The one thing the goal has done is completely overshadow the fact that Kompany pretty much had Rooney in his pocket throughout the game up to that point.

The media still appear to cling to Rooney as the saviour of English football.  Personally I think he's peaked and it would not surprise me if he was sold suring the summer.  Only a year ago he was allegedly up there with Messi & Ronaldo, now he's nowhere near in my book.

A great goal yes, although there have been plenty better, I prefer to look at his first touch in the move that led to the goal.  It looked like he hadn't taken his boots out of the box they came in.

two words; Shin Pad.  Good job he didnt hit it with his foot, or else it would have ended up in row g.  Actually, I would have much preferred that ending

Irani was embarrsing with his 'Goal of the Decade' shite this morning.  'With everything he's had to put with...' - all largely self-inflicted due to him trying to boff grannies or fatten up his wallet.

A good goal.  A great goal.  You can watch the Football League Show & see many others just as good every week.

If you think the goal was over hyped then surely the best thing to do would be ignore it not start a thread adding to the hype.

I thought it was a brilliant goal and a superb piece of athleticism, there are very few players who could do that. Much as I loved the Cahill goal it wasn't in the same league, volleying a ball bouncing around the 6 yard box isn't the same as getting up to a cross like that.

It was only 12 months ago that he was being talked of as in the same league as Messi, and deservedly so. He hasn't fully  regained his form since his injury but I can't see there be any possibility of them selling him after giving him that bumper contract a few months ago.

it would be interesting to see how many players who burst through at the ages of 16 / 17, that happens to...

I think the Cahill goal was very much in the same league Chris. The athleticism was impeccable. The height of the ball was an issue, there was no pace on it either, plus the angle. Quite comfortably the best goal I have ever witnessed.

So what's that 5 league goals this season? £200k+ a week. Give me a break. If you're judging goals on style and when it was scored how about Rivaldo in the last minute vs Valencia to complete a hattrick and qualify for the CL?

On the contrary, I think there is every possibility he will be off loaded in the Summer if Barca or Madrid come sniffing.  That goal apart Rooney has not been as effective a player this season as in previous, £200K or whatever per week is not a good return on your investment when all you have too show for it is 5 goals.  He might go on a run now but I can't see it.  Rooney to me has lost something from his game.

Utd giving him a contract is just protecting their investment.  They didn't want to lose him for a paltry amount with only a year or so on his contract so gave him a bumper contract to make him sign, something they will claw back with an over inflated transfer price in the summer.

If an under performing Torres is £50 million, God knows what price Rooney will command.
