harry arrives at colney training ground and confirms there will be deals done , bentley, hutton and crouch out and he likes gary cahill -1 million per cent modric is staying he made clear.

I expect Levi to get Modric off to Chelsea at 23.59 for £40M. Exactly as he did with Berbatov to Manure for £30M.

If our only business in today is a right back (to replace the one we sold a few days ago) and a youngster from Shamrock Rovers, then I can't believe anyone really thinks our squad is anything like strong enough.

It would be pretty pathetic.

We're already looking vulnerable now that Lichaj's out until 2012. This squad is wafer thin and - as I said a few weeks ago - we only need a handful of injuries, nothing like the amount we saw last season, to leave us exposed.

We've sold or released four central midfielders since the end of last season now. We are so vulnerable in that area it's frightening.

Just like last season when we lost all our first team midfielders.  The board will never learn.  They will expect the youth players to come in and save us.

So as it stands, the squad will be made up of youngsters and an ever decreasing pool of experienced players.

19 fit outfield players (Lichaj long term injured)
11 Senior professionals (Including Ireland)
8 Younger players with potential

DEF: Cuellar (could have been sold if it wasnt for the injury), Warnock, Dunne, Collins and Beye (THE greatest player ever) (Clark, Lowry and Baker)
MID: Ireland, N'Zogbia and Petrov (Albrighton, Herd, Delph and Bannan)
FOR: Bent, Gabby and Heskey (Delfouneso)

How we can possibly enter a season with such a small and inexperienced squad I do not know! It is bordering on the ridiculous. I do understand the cost cutting but 7 midfielders with 4 of them being unproven younger players.

If you add in Hutton and another midfielder we are still short, all we need is a couple of injuries in midfield and we are going to struggle.

Can't argue with the numbers, but when do we stop classing players as 'youth with potential'?  Delph has been our best players so far this season, IMO anyway, and a lot of people would put Clark into our first 11.  Personally I wouldn't right now, but then I would be playing Bannan ahead of Heskey.

So, to me the players I'm relatively confident on are:-
Given
Dunne, Collins, Warnock, Cuellar, Clark (plus probably Hutton)
Petrov, Delph, Bannan, Ireland
Gabby, N'Zogbia, Albrighton (form is temporary and all that)
Bent, Heskey

So mi make it 15-17, dependent on which side of the glass half full/glass half empty debate you fall in.  Not saying that's enough, and there's a big hole in the defensive side of the midfield, but it isn't as disastrous as some make out.

We could have a situation like we did last season in Oct/Nov/Dec when Houllier was forced to play young players, simply because we didn't have anyone else when injuries and suspensions piled up.

The problem this season is, even a number of those young players have been shipped out. You could almost imagine a game this season when this idea of Heskey playing in defence is seriously considered!!

Listening to Talkshite last night (yes, I know) and their 'potteries correspondent' said that Stoke were expecting to sign Palacios, but that the deal had hit a snag and he don't know what it was.

A snag? Dealing with Spurs? Surely not.

I caught 10 mins of SSN this morning and i'm glad i'm not going to spend all day watching it. They filmed staff opening the Spurs Lodge gates and said something along the lines of 'Spurs are open for business'. It was very depressing.

very good blog on redknapp from a Spurs fan. Apologies if already posted http://bit.ly/qj3eXj

Dean Scoggins just tweeted saying that we made an apporach for Huddlestone (not sure when) but Spuds said they didnt want to sell him.  Things could change during the day though

Be a great signing for Liverpool if that goes ahead.

Huddlestone has tweeted that he was amazed who he saw entering the Spuds training ground via the back entrance. Coincidence?
