With Arry and Levi, we are swimming with sharks. Hopefully they can sort something out. Hutton is a good player, you can see where Spurs are coming from, they forked out nearly 9mil for the guy, we supposedly have bid 3mil. Spurs will get less for him at Christmas and he'll be coming into the last few months of his contract.
Hopefully we do land a decent midfielder though. Petrov tries, but he can't play with intensity for the 90, that is our priority.

I take it hes in glasgow with the scotland squad so a fee will need to be agreed sharpish if we want to push this through.

Beginning to think its the better of two evils if we buy no-one before the deadline. Someone coming in now will only give the board an excuse to flog Bent in January claiming its to pay for the summers transfer deals

This transfer window sums up where we have gone as a club: backwards.
An Irish prospect no-one's heard of and an average at best full back.
Not impressed Mr. Lerner, I have paid my money in good faith and I expect us to at least compete in the Premier League.

yep they probably would if we're in mid-table mediocrity come January. Sell him for 30m, get a replacement in for 10m. Pocket 20m. Job's a good 'un.

If our only business in today is a right back (to replace the one we sold a few days ago) and a youngster from Shamrock Rovers, then I can't believe anyone really thinks our squad is anything like strong enough.

It would be pretty pathetic.

Listening to Talkshite last night (yes, I know) and their 'potteries correspondent' said that Stoke were expecting to sign Palacios, but that the deal had hit a snag and he don't know what it was.

Anyone think that snag may be us trying to hijack the deal now that Makoun has left?

Wishful thinking!  Cant see that happening but then again, I couldnt see Eck getting the villa job but that still happened.

I would hope so, he's got the battling qualities & engine in midfield we need. He's probably similar to NRC, but with a better touch.

So as it stands, the squad will be made up of youngsters and an ever decreasing pool of experienced players.

19 fit outfield players (Lichaj long term injured)
11 Senior professionals (Including Ireland)
8 Younger players with potential

DEF: Cuellar (could have been sold if it wasnt for the injury), Warnock, Dunne, Collins and Beye (THE greatest player ever) (Clark, Lowry and Baker)
MID: Ireland, N'Zogbia and Petrov (Albrighton, Herd, Delph and Bannan)
FOR: Bent, Gabby and Heskey (Delfouneso)

How we can possibly enter a season with such a small and inexperienced squad I do not know! It is bordering on the ridiculous. I do understand the cost cutting but 7 midfielders with 4 of them being unproven younger players.

If you add in Hutton and another midfielder we are still short, all we need is a couple of injuries in midfield and we are going to struggle.

Can we at least limit ourselves to slagging them off for what they have done and not what we think they might?

God loves an optimist John, but don't be silly.  Of course not.
