Hutton's okay. He's solid, robust, can tank forward. What's the point in trading him for Young? Well, he's about six years younger than Luke, so that's something. £3m is more than I was expecting, though.

Get the young Irish lad and a good midfielder in and that's alright, given the dampening-down of expectations around at the mo.

Just because he is younger doesn't mean he is any better. There's a reason he can't get in the Spurs team. At least you know what you got with Young. Wouldn't it be better to stick with reliability rather than the unknown, for what looks like is going to be a sticky season?

You could have said the same of Kyle Walker.

3m for hutton?!!  Jesus H christ.

we need a full back with experience and 3m is not a high price for a PL player in his mid twenties, having just sold one of equivalent ability that is several years older. We also have a couple of players in the squad as adequate cover for that position. Who were you expecting? Dani Alves?

Someone who can hold down a place in a PL team would be nice. I don't see the point of letting our deadwood go, only to replace it with Spurs.

Looks like Hargreaves is a non goer ..having medical at Man City  :o

If true and they get him under the right terms they've got an excellent signing, maybe one of there best in this window.

So Milner can come to us on loan then. :)
Christ, even Hercules wouldn't try and get on their bench now.

so when we signed a RB on loan last year that couldn't get into Spurs' first XI and still can't, that ended up on loan at QPR in the Championship, but ended up playing himself into national team contention by the end of the season having joined us how did you feel about that?

Strange business.  Get rid of Luke Young and replace him with somebody who isn't as good, for £3m.  There's also the fact that Luke Young was pretty handy at left back to consider as well.

I dont agree that Luke is any better but apparently he wanted out for a while.
But we do lose his versatilityat both full back positions.
We do have options for left ack though. Clark, Warnock, Lichaj and Baker can all fill in.
With Hutton, Herd, Lichaj and Cuellar options for right back.

Get rid of Young and sign Hutton and you get:-

Hutton - Dunne - Collins - Warnock

With Cuellar (CB and RB) and Clark (CB and LB) as very copetent cover.  That plus the youth in Lichaj, Baker and Lowry, and we'd be a lot better off than some people make out.

I agree Maz, and with the  decent start our defence has made I think it's just a matter of finding something in the middle of the park now.

Not sure why we don't get in there and have a go for Milner, he's getting further and further down there pecking order every day.

Didn't think L Young is any better, but at least his is playing, whilst Hutton isn't. We were told Ireland had a point to prove, and look at that situation.

Don't think manager rates Cuellar, as he virtually had a crowbar trying to prise him out the door. And I am not being funny, but I thought Warnock was awful against Wolves.

Yes but Walker is an up and coming, who Spurs were willing to give a chance in the Premier League on loan. And because of his performances, they refused us to let us have him back. However, couldn't we have just taken Hutton on loan.

i will be glad tomorrow at 11pm when people can finally realise milner is NOT coming back -he will feature in many key games for city this season and is highly rated by mancini who wants a quality 25 man squad-milner is always starting or on the bench , not an outcast like bellamy, santa cruz etc.

If and when he does leave city in the future im sure it will be to a team challenging at the top for champions league places and trophies.

Young wanted to go, is 32 and on higher wages than Hutton according to reports. Doesn't seem that strange.

I think Hutton can be a good player for us, he's younger and probably on lower wages than Young who wanted to leave. It makes sense to me. Like I said though, we need others.

I agree. Younger than LY, lower wages and will contribute a hell of a lot more in the final third of the pitch than LY did.
