Don't even joke about Bent... we've got him for another year at least....

Macheda, Fuller (ruptured his Achilles tendon a few months ago so doubts about him, I'd say), Joe Cole... all decent attacking players but not what we need right now. We need strength and experience and leadership in midfield, and at RB. That's where we'll be concentrating our efforts to sign players, I'd say.

Dann is a big missed opportunity. Shame.

Having looked him up on Wikipedia he is actually named Enda.

Only 21 so I guess he might be considered a promising youngster.

Its the Enda the world as we know it...I feel fine.

arsenal in talks with mertesacker but still linked to cahill and dann as well besides signing santos from fenerbache , old arsene seems to finally be splashing the cash and both santos and mertesacker are excellent players.

Anyone else glad that Brice Jovial isn't our manager?

youre right as i bankrupt the club with both my ridiculous salary and making sure villa replaced downing and tyoung with sanchez and mata
and would have signed these players this summer:
Neuer in goal
Pastore
Nasri
Falcao
and to solve the full back problem the amazing Phillip lamb
but then i wouldnt be so realistic would i ? :P

Lets stick to a bit of sense - everyone i ever mentioned is a viable option to come to villa and wouldnt be surprised if alex mac secretly wanted some of them.

Also why dont you suggest a player rather than wait for made up media or to try and diss others to make yourself feel better.  Sounds like someone lost out to manage something ha

I've heard it said that most important player in modern football is the full back, as they touch the ball more than any other player on the pitch. This is why it can make so much difference to a team to have a creative ball-playing full back. I think MON acknowledged this when he was reportedly after Bosingwa, and why it is disappointing that none of L Young, Shorey, or Warnock have really worked out.

In our position its difficult to go out and buy a ready-made top drawer player. Therefore it looks as though someone like Hutton is the best we can expect. Its frustrating to see the good business Liverpool appear to have done with Enrique, and the wealth of options that teams in and around the CL places have.

Spurs brought Hutton in for big money, but they picked-up Assou-Ekotto, Walker, and Naughton for less money before they had properly broken through. This is what I would like to see us do so that we are not in the same situation every couple of years where we need to go out and buy a ready-made replacement.

calm down bricey my friend , the next 36 hours will be a rollercoaster ride and you will need to keep your powder dry.

Interesting watching george graham saying his philosophy was to get young hungry players from the lower divisions like bould, winterburn, dixon , smith and add them to the young talent coming through of merson, thomas, adams etc which gave him a hungry team of ambition, rather than signing a load of proven players who were on easy street.

Isn't that what we do with our youth development program?

Newby here. I just wondered if anyone else felt Mr Wenger played the kids on purpose on Sunday against Manure, as he does seem to have been given a huge chunk of funds released now for him to spend? It was as though he was saying to the board, this is what is going to happen for the season.

Strange parallels with the Villa situation at Arsenal don't you think? Lose your two best players, forced to play kids, get demolished by the big boys.

Hutton, Hargreaves and Williams from Boro we've been linked with would be a decent end to the window.

Hopefully Dann stays put and we can move for him in January if we've shifted Beye and Cuellar.

welcome to our humble abode vanilla, interesting theory although i think wenger had no choice but to play that team at utd as he was rocked with injuries and suspensions-he's certainly splashing the cash today though by all accounts with his fingers in several pies.

Welcome.

All the noises seem to be that its Wenger not wanting to spend the money. I only hope he doesn't decide to spend it on Bent.
