Hugely disappointed that Makoun has gone.  Think he could have been a great player for us given the chance to get up to pace.  More than happy to give Mcleish the benefit of the doubt but I'm starting to miss Houlier.

I'm not remotely concerned that he's gone, as we have four midfielders in Petrov, Delph, Bannan and Ireland who I'd rather see in the side ahead of Makoun any day of the week.

I saw Makoun as a replacement for Petrov and I'd rather not put all my faith in a couple of kids who only have about 30 starts between them.  DOn't get me wrong, I think they'll be great, just seems a lot for them to carry on their own.

Me too, good reader of the game, always available for the ball and making intelligent passes. Well,we've still got Ireland.

Has to be 3-4 in now if Beye has gone? That would be Luke Young, Beye and Makoun, mayb 130k a week ish off the wage bill. Surely with the squad already small, McLeish can have some funds and those wages for his own men. Hutton, Hargreaves, Kayal, Sio from Sion, Banayoun - we need the bloody lot let alone 2-3 of them.

With the squad looking thinner by the day ,

Thin? The squad looks positively anorexic!

In: Given, N'Zogbia

Out: A Young, L Young, Downing, Makoun (Loan), Carew, Pires, Reo-Coker, Hogg, Osbourne, Salifou, Weimann (Loan) and possibly Beye

Have I missed anyone? If I have I bet they were 'out' and not 'in'; this is ridiculous!

Friedel?

I think that might amount to a saving of say £15m on the wage bill?

In context our turnover at June 2010 was £109m.  But didn't someone say wages were 80/85% of turnover?  Are they not supposed to be about 60/65%?  Doesn't 20% of £109m = £21.8m?

Oh dear!

So if Ireland doesn't get his head straight which one might say is just a tad possible and Petrov, say, gets a long term injury, exactly where does that leave us? Relying on kids got us through odd games last season such as Man Utd but was in no way any solution across a longer period of time...

Either some amazing signings are heading to VP in the next 2 days or Mr Faulkner will be receiving a very strongly worded reply to his ST letter.

How pathetic would it be if we don't bring in anymore players before the transfer window shuts?

The board has shafted us all.

Makoun was a very good passer of the ball, I am really surprised they have let him go.
There must be at least two, hopefully three coming, or there are going to be some seriously pissed off people, me included.
What happened to the bright future ?

And even one of the kids that could play has gone. It would leave us with Delph (injury prone and will get at least 4-5 games suspended) Petrov - Mr 60 minutes - playing well at the moment but age and form are a factor, Bannan - no way he could realistically function in the positions Delph and Petrov are playing as he is too lightweight, but should be in the team, Ireland - do we know what he can do? Never seen him make a tackle, but we need energy and he seems about as bothered as a pig on a hot day about running around. Then Gardner who the way it is shaping we are going to find out how good he is sooner rather than later. Lets hope he is as good as the potential has suggested! Adding Hargreaves would simply add to the worry. Fabulous player, but how many games will we get from him? 2 are needed IMO.

I'm not expecting any to come in. One, maybe, that one being Alan Hutton.

It would be a dangerous gamble to continue the season with the squad as it is.

Creative Midfielder

We absolutely have to buy or loan in a central midfielder, presumably cheaper. Aside from foreign signings, which I'd be surprised by, I can only really think of: jenas, diame, palacios if he's not gone already, maybe that guy who plays for Celtic - Moroccan I think? Kayal or something?

I think it is a lot more than 15 million.

I got to just shy of £19m per year based on a quick tally in my head.

Turnover wise we can add the sponsorship but will lose the cup runs and European  money. We have also definitely added Bent and possibly a few others since the last accounts too.

Either way we must be getting close to breaking even with Heskey, Dunne and a few others wages getting reallocated next year.
