I can't believe people think that if someone offered 25 million plus tomorrow Bent would stay. He would be gone like a shot, and who could blame him.

Yeh a tough call, CL football, more money, players who might actually pass to him, improve his England ambitions. Arsenal with a proven Goal scorer +  a couple of others are a top 4 team.

Just so myself and others can try to understand a few posts on here recently...can I just ask how old you are bricey? Not meaning to sound rude, but a few of us may start to understand the logic behind some of your posts.

Was away for a few hours...have we sold Villa Park yet? What other assets are up for sale? The shirt off a fan's back perhaps? :-(

With Arsenal's inept defensive display today, let's hope that they buy Cahill quickly so we have access to the sell on fee we supposedly have in place.

We have loaned Barry Bannan out to the Digbeth theatre for thier up coming production of Charlie and the Chockolate Factory, we had a bid for Heskeys shooting boots but no one can find them. General Krulaks keyboard was sold but the buyer has complained that some of the numbers are too close together. Paul Faulkners new book, Everything I know about Management and Leadership has had no bids on E-Bay. They are hoping that Alex Mcliesh new DVD on how to turn Aston Villa in to Birmingham City will generate some sales.

Do we have any players now who are good enough to play in any of the teams likely to finish in the top six? No we don't. Even if Arsene Wenger thought Darren Bent was good enough for them there's no way on this earth he would part with over £20m for him.

So the only players who might be leaving this transfer window are players who aren't good enough for us anyway.

Relax.

Harsh.  But not necessarily wrong.

Except, thankfully, no Champions League team want him.

Ozz, that must be one of the least thought out posts you have ever made on this forum.

Is the right answer. Apart from AY and SD who both wanted to go, the former for bigger and better, then all the others who have left are just not good enough for where we want to be.
We are getting to the stage where the dead wood has been cleared out, freeing up space and wages for better quality replacements.
Looking at recent activity; Bent, NZogbia and Given I don't think we should worry about RL's commitment to improving the team or paying out for the quality required.

Why Bren? I reckon a player like Bent would have wanted certain assurances on signing last January, not least around the future ambitions of the club. WE were in a pickle at the time, and he continually spoke of Young and Downing providing him the ammunition. Since then, the manager that bought him has gone, the players that supplied him have gone, and the club have gone into a frenzied state of wanting to impress George Osborne. If you were 27, a top goalscorer which he undoubtedly is, and knew the club you were at never stood a chance of top 6 let alone top 4 in the next 3-4 seasons, then if the opportunity arose to go somewhere more ambitious then you would jump at the opportunity to go. He is an example where I could understand it after the summer we have endured.
