At the other end of the scale is Alan Smith and Jimmy fucking Bullard. The worst suggestions I have ever seen on this site and that's saying something.
Don't be too hasty, who was it that was constantly touting Kevin Kyle as the answer to our striking dilemma?

but i guess this would go with theose who felt same about alex mac becoming manager

tell me what level do you play football at.?

I can see Bridge, Adebayor, RSC & Bellamy leaving Man City.

it's hard to see where three of those four are going to go, given their wages. And apparently, even Adebayor to Spurs is unlikely for the same reason.

Piece in the Graun today about this. Saying several are currently training away from the first team but the club don't want to subsidise their wages if they move and the players won't take a pay cut. It encapsulates the absurdity of their spending or more specifically a league that allows it.

Man City have made it the way it is.  We are as culpable to a much lesser extent with Bye and Heskey.  The trouble is, they can afford it we really can't.

I am nearly at the stage of not wanting any further signings, even if we sign 2 good players we are not going to finish in the champions league, at least this way we find out if the kids are good enough.
We have enough depth...
                                    Given/Brad
  Young/Lij      Dunne/Carlos    Collins/Clark   Warnock/Beye
                     Petrov/Makoun    Delph/Gardner

Gabby/Bannan           Hesky/Ireland                NZog/Marky
                                 Bent/Fonz

Luke, Dunne, Warnock, Cuellar, Beye, Ireland and Heskey.

Those are the players in our squad that I'd consider replaceable considering their current ability and reported wage.

I don't think they're bad players - but I do think when you compare their (reported) wage with players of a similar stature at some of our divisional rivals, that these are the areas we need to tighten up in in terms of our wage structure. And the players I expect to leave (maybe not Ireland) before things turn around and we can have another crack at the top 4.

We re very light in midfield so to bring two or three in along with another dfender and striker wud be ideal
5 signings loan or otherwise
i guess we trade out ireland makoun young bring in replacements plus two more that wud be best.
Two midfielders of quality gibson of man u on loan, parker, a move for henry thomas wigan but i sugguested bullard and smith as they are avaliable and decent

W.Palacios is abit one paced for my liking, would not be too unhappy with someone like Cattermole.

Cattermole is a walking liability. He has practially zero restraint or discipline on the pitch, and unlike someone like Barton is a decidely average footballer. The challenge he put in at the weekend should have got him a red, but Webb bottled it. No shocks there seeing as he also completely missed a blatant handball on the line from Larsson.

Ok so no Cattermole then, I thought we could use his steel in the middle but as you all correctly point out he is rather limited and does have a tendancy to get himself sent-off.

Barton although is a better player, but would he seriously come to the Villa ?

Or maybe embroidery.

mat kendricks blog regarding makoun-

Rumours abound from Greece that Olympiakos have been in touch with Villa about either a loan deal or a permanent transfer for Makoun, who has begun this season on the substitutes bench but is likely to start tonight's Carling Cup tie against Hereford.

The Birmingham Mail's phones have been hot with Greek reporters looking for information.

The only information is that various agents seem to be talking up a deal when in actual fact there has been NO contact between the clubs.

Nor have Villa held discussions with any other clubs about Makoun.

It must have been difficult for Makoun to settle in Birmingham, particularly after the summer departures of the man who signed him, Gerard Houllier and fellow French speakers fitness coach Robert Duverne and Robert Pires.

A car accident involving his wife and one of his children back home in his native Cameroon hardly helped and he missed the end of last season through compassionate leave, although fortunately nobody was seriously injured in the crash.

The language barrier at Bodymoor Heath is an obvious factor for Makoun, although his basic grasp of English is progressing well following lessons with player liaison officer and expert linguist Lorna McClelland.

He did cut a lonely figure at times during Villa's pre-season tour of Hong Kong, occasionally with just his MP3 player for company, but it is hoped the arrival of French winger Charles N'Zogbia could bring him out of his shell.

There is no suggestion that Makoun has moaned or sulked and those who encounter him at the training ground will invariably be greeted with an enthusiastic smile.

Makoun has been quoted as saying "I want to start games, the new manager has come in and I need to impress him.

"I want to fight and prove myself in the best league in the world. I love English football."

It is good to hear, although his task has been made doubly difficult by the exciting emergence under Alex McLeish of Fabian Delph and intriguing signs from Stiliyan Petrov that the experienced captain is not to be written off just yet.

Villa have merely scratched the surface with what the 28-year-old has to offer and what persuaded Houllier to pursue him relentlessly in January to push through his £6 million transfer.

The simplicity of his game in keeping the ball moving as quickly as possible has been plain to see during most of his seven Villa appearances and his passing was particularly impressive during the February defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

He might not be the box-to-box James Milner type the claret and blues have lacked - and McLeish craves - but Makoun has the quality to patrol in front of the back four and get things started for Villa, providing a platform for a more creative partner to push forward.

There are still question marks over whether he is big enough and strong enough to cope with the ball-winning demands of the Premier League and his late lunge at DJ Campbell which earned him a red card at Bloomfield Road suggests his tackling needs some work.

But McLeish is not actively looking to force Makoun's premature departure from Villa Park.

The manager was only noncommittal when asked about the unused substitute's situation after the Blackburn victory on Saturday evening because he is keeping his options open.

If McLeish is still to wheel and deal to bolster his midfield before the transfer deadline a week tomorrow, which now looks increasingly unlikely, then Villa boast few centre-of-the-park assets with a higher re-sale or loan value than Makoun.

Asked if Makoun was a player he would possibly let go out, McLeish replied: "It's possible, but we wouldn't let anybody go unless somebody came in."

So, possible, but improbable.

Chances are Makoun will still be wearing a claret and blue shirt come next Thursday, September 1.

And, if he is, let's take a leap of faith and hope Jumper Jean finally gets the Villa Park faithful jumping for joy.

you are entitled to mention them brice my friend , smith hasnt really done much over the last 5 yr or more though and bullard after a purple patch at wigan has never hit those heights since so i think both are busted flushes in my opinion.
