suprised Milner doeesnt go to Arsenal

If Wenger wasn't such a tool he'd sign him. Probably too old and dear for him. He'll rarely get a start now at City.

Im sure Milner will drop down in the order now , Wenger could have just said give us Milner and 12 million and you can have Nasri. Milner would be a regular in the Ass team .     Hes english too , wenger is a knob at times ..

Maybe a Johnson loan is still possibly last minute ...

At the other end of the scale is Alan Smith and Jimmy fucking Bullard. The worst suggestions I have ever seen on this site and that's saying something.
Don't be too hasty, who was it that was constantly touting Kevin Kyle as the answer to our striking dilemma?

i take your point maz but say we had £6m to spend could we not use that by spending £3m on a player and £3m on his wages in the knowledge that the likes of beye, heskey, young and others will be out of contract next summer before the new rules kick in -id rather spend £8m now than have to panic in january and spend double that.

I thought along those lines too but apparently it doesn't work like that.
All I know is that the General said what he said (McLeish being backed etc) due to an understanding that something was happening that didn't happen or hasn't happened yet (answers on a postcard). And that money is available for transfers if the salary (as a % of turnover) reaches a certain level.
Nothing McLeish has said contradicts that and could be deemed as having "no money" but only tells a part of the story. McLeish doesnt have to be any more explicit and really all fans need to know is that we can trade if players leave. We're getting our house in order and will hopefully be stronger for it afterwards.
And to be honest if it means being more selective and cute in the market, fine.
Better that than throwing huge sums at a load of crap players.

Yes it was him.  He was as you'd imagine a lone voice on that one.  Disappeared from here not long after due to having brought great shame with such ideas to the H&V family.

I can see Bridge, Adebayor, RSC & Bellamy leaving Man City.

Milner & Johnson will be needed if they are going to challenge for 4 competitions this season.

so for example are you saying should we sell cuellar for £1.5m we could then spend £7m on a player as long as his wages werent higher than what cuellar was on?

it's hard to see where three of those four are going to go, given their wages. And apparently, even Adebayor to Spurs is unlikely for the same reason.

Cuellar is 30, has not been a regular & is out of contract next summer. I don't know how we can expect any more than £2m for him.

Dann (for example) could cost £8m and could be a regular for years.

In theory, yes.

Piece in the Graun today about this. Saying several are currently training away from the first team but the club don't want to subsidise their wages if they move and the players won't take a pay cut. It encapsulates the absurdity of their spending or more specifically a league that allows it.

Man City's choice of midfielders: Nasri, Barry, De Jong, Johnson, Milner, Silva, Y Toure, Wright-Phillips (joining Bolton?)
Villa's choice of midfielders: Petrov, Delph, Makoun, Ireland, Albrighton, N’Zogbia, Hogg, Bannan, Herd
Our fells are likeable and cost way less, but 'taint really a fair fight, is it?

Luke Young being linked with QPR again I see. Probably past his best but still a very capable EPL performer. Not sure I'd be overly keen on getting rid as in an ideal world he would be a very useful cover player for us. The inevitable links with Hutton will emerge again pity we couldn't be bold and bid 5m for Walker.
