Can't see how anelka would fit in and as he's getting on a bit what would we get from him that the likes of Bent, Gabby and N'Zogbia don't provide?  We'd be much better off using whtever his loan would cost on central midfield.

Joe Cole I'm unsure about, but again with N'Zog , Ireland, Bannan and Marc his is a position we're sort of OK in, so why not focus whatever cash is available on a more problematic area?
Sorry, but Anelka, even at his age, would offer a LOT more than either heskey or gabby out wide. He's a much better player. I'm inclined to agree with you on Cole though.

I didn't mention Heskey and yes he'd be a vast improvement on him.  Would he give us more than Gabby wide?  Maybe, but then I want to see Albrighton and N'Zog play wide, so if the difference is between who is the better cover for Bent then there's not enough of a differnece to warrant the money, IMO.

With all due respect, what the fuck would Martin Laursen know about who McLeish wants to sign?

I'd be more inclined to ask if this is the real Martin Laursen or not??

Loan deals don't necessarilly involve paying all the loanees wages.

We'd have to pay a good half i'd say, so a few questions would be asked about what's going on if suddenly 100k a week was found after pleading poverty. of course chelsea and liverpool could be mental and pay all thier wages.

Albrighton has a hell of a lot to do to prove that he warrants a starting place with the squad we have at the moment, let alone if we had the likes of Anelka to call upon. He's regressing, if anything. I want nothing more than for him to be a success, but he needs to step up, and quickly.

It was on Martin Laursen's facebook page yesterday that we were after Anelka & Joe Cole on loan...

I've often though it isn't transfer fees that is stopping us make more signings, rather it is wages.  I think we have enough money to buy a player for £20m but we wont be willing to pay him £80k - £90k a week.  With this in mind, I can't see us going for players like Joe Cole or Anelka which is a shame.

In which case what is wrong with signing a player for £7m and offering him a 3 year contract on £50k/week?

Looks like we could be missing out on part of the sell-on fee for the Bolton defender as Liverpool are reported to be offering £10million plus striker David Ngog and young hitman Raheem Sterling, 16, on loan to clinch the deal.

I thought he did OK when he came on at Fulham.  I also thought he was unlucky to be dropped last season and it was more to do with the tactical swtich of putting Ash back out wide than it was about Marc playing poorly.

Yes, if Anelka was in the squad he'd be in the side ahead if him, but that's a different argument to whether or not we should sign him or not based on the relative strength of the forward players we already have when compared to the weaknesses in other areas.  If not a waste of funds, it would at least be a case of not deploying them where they are most needed.

Nothing as this is what we've done with N'Zogbia and Given (on average with the fee).  I just think the next step up type player who would demand the higher wages is beyond us i.e. Anelka, Adebayor etc.

As i just posted on thread regarding signing another before window closes
i opted yes.

A trade out of any player will see us bring someone in

Also i think that Alex Mac could be looking at some loans as window comes to a close
players /agents/clubs want to get players in

Some city/spurs/liverpool cats offs could well be coming our way

There are other players out there that would be a step up on what we have that wouldn't cost nearly as much as the likes of Anelka and Adebayor.

If the big sulk goes to Spurzzzzzzz and Modric leaves i think there will be the biggest unrest in the camp you will ever see - closely followed by VDV, Bale and co looking for a way out as quickly as poss

For all the guff and semi orgasms in the London press about Spurs they really are no better than us at any given time - they just get hyped up as the media love Redknob

This is one of a few distinct differences between us and Spurs. Even though they are a selling club in the smae way we are, they manage to avoid the bad press associated with it and importantly drive the price up fo the player being sold brilliantly - Levy is light years ahead of our board when it comes to negotiations.

They will then replace the players they sold at a lower cost but not lose too much in terms of ability.

We could replicate this quite easily if we had a experienced operator at board level....
