Bent, Gabby, Heskey, The Fonz and Bill Wiemann says to me we have decent options up front. I'd be quite happy to get a better targetman than Ivanhoe should we be able to move him on, or look for a 'link' forward.

But other positions would be a bigger priority, in all honesty.

Before bent arrived we were in the bottom 3 with those other strikers-not enough goals and if bent gets injured long term we will be struggle to score.

We also had a very dodgy defence then. that looks better organised now.

Odemwingie is too old. Spending that sort of money on a 30year old is how we got in this mess in the first place

You seem to have changed your tune Greg, you wanted us to pay £4m to have Parker on loan not long ago. I agree with you though.

TimVilla,

Maybe I am being neive but I think money still could be available but I just wouldnt prioritise a striker. However I think signings will increasingly be made based the players resale value. As Chris Smith has rightly been asking we need to find a way of increasing revenue. Probably one of the easiest ways to do this is to sell a star player and reinvest the money on more youngsters, just as Arsenal, Lyon, Udinese, and Porto have over the years.

I think - I hope - we are at the beginning of this cycle and once the scouting networks are in place we will see villa signing players again. I'd also guess that AM is also wanting to assess the younger players before he asks for any money from Randy. The alleged interest in Milner and Johnson would suggest that money can be found if the right players are available.

unless of course the so called itk poster of a couple a weeks back who reckoned there was going to be one more big sale is correct-gabby to newcastle is still a rumour doing the rounds although not sure id class that as a big sale in the context of things.

I would'nt read too much into these 'itk' people eastie, 9 times out of 10, they tend to know nothing.

I think Chelsea have the right idea with Parker. A 4m loan fee for him is decent value, not that they're worried about value. Mebbe we've offered a permanent deal to try and knock them out of the bidding - If not i'm not sure why we're not looking at that option

No, it was you Greggers.

But we have fuck all. How do we spread that around?

Exactly. It would be spread VERY thinly and if that was the case I'd rather not bother and throw the kids in.

Well, if we genuinely have fuck all, and Randy has taken the reported £15 mill out of the club - we're only slightly better off with Randy in charge then we were with Ellis.

No wonder the Gen's fucked off.

Yeah, I remember the many occasions when Herbert dipped into his sky rocket (or risked a chunk of his families wealth) to spend large sums of money on players too.  Only to have it frittered away by a manager with no concept of the leftfield notion of sustainable growth.

At least with Herbert we had his many witty soundbites on the rare occasions when he wasn't lavishing money on us. That eased the pain, and kept morale up during difficult times.

Raul could be going to Blackburn. Imagine if he's at Villa Park on Sat!

He's turned them down.

What a surprise;-)

Ronaldinho, now Raul. They really are fucking deluded. Didn't the newly crowned Drink and Drive King Steve Kean also claim that they were aiming for CL football within 3-4 years or something equally as ludicrous? Blackburn are fast becoming the new comedy club of English football, and that chicken video is just hideous.

You go back and you'll see i was against us buying Parker because of his age. It's on this thread as you well know seeing you obviously gone back to check. Picking up on a post where i say a loan deal is a decent option for chelsea from a month back before we knew we didn't have a pot to piss in, is just odd in the extreme. Now if i was a complete argumentative anal retentive i could go back two months and check all the players you rated who are now totally out of our budget, but alas the pub calls so i'll leave you to update your H&V's Forumer's Wallchart. Alone obv.
