I read a quote from someone. It may have even been the general, I can't remember. It's not the transfer money that's the issue. Money is there to buy the right player. Lerner has always backed the manager. Which so far he has, no doubt. It's the overall cost that needs to be looked at. The wages of the potential new player need to fall in line with the new structure.

I'd take a gamble on hargreaves. Great player when fit. If on a pay as you play deal could bea great addition.

Serious question, what happened to the £35/40 million we were meant to be spending?

All this talk about how the board were going to back McLeish with money to spend this summer and now it seems we're only going to get 2 players.

I understand that people think we've got new and revived players in Warnock, Dunne, Collins and Ireland... (even though they've only played like 2 pre-season games) but what about the players we've lost?

I'll be happy if Warnock, Dunne, Collins and Ireland can get back to the near best form, i'm also pleased with the signings of Given and N'Zogbia with Charles hopefully signing within the next few days, but I don't think it's enough and we can't exactly just assume Warnock, Dunne, Collins and Ireland will get back to their near best just because McLeish is going to give them a second chance and only watching them in two meaningless games.

I know it'll still only be a pre-season game, but hopefully it might give us some indication on how the four players mentioned will get on in terms of attitude, effort, togetherness and continuity against Chelsea on Saturday.

did you watch the blackburn game? far from pointless! off the ball scrap, diving, a great save a few great blocks and warnock dumping david dunn on his head, our boys played to win that against a team who BEAT us last season with young and downing playing. i think with out europe we are fine till jan

Fulham have joined Bolton and Stoke in pursuit of Birmingham striker Cameron Jerome.
Have I missed something?

When did Cameron Jerome become the striker that mid-table clubs want to sign?

And more to the point, why?

Don't believe all you hear dave! Jerome is an average player at best and will only attract average clubs at best.

DAnn quoted as being 100% certain to leave this summer- sadly though Chelsea and liverpool are both said to be in the running to sign him .

They'll flog Tevez, to Inter, if the press are right.
Dzeko, Balotelli, Aguero and Adebayor is a decent looking forward line. Although, Adebayor will probably leave, and the others don't have much Premier League experience. Be interesting to see what system and line-up they'll play.

I wish it was us- good for the real city fans who have spent decades in the shadow of utd  but sadly only a matter of time before our streets are littered with plastic fans in city shirts who probably never even knew Maine road existed .
Agree with shay, that it's only matter of time before city win the real big trophies .

Talking of Man City, there might be room for one more up top, according to Zigic's agent, who has clearly been taking some particularly mind bending drugs.

Quote
"A few English teams are showing interest in Zigic, but the obstacle now is his high wage at Birmingham," Calasan told Serbian daily Blic.

"There has been interest from Everton, Wigan and Sunderland, but they cannot meet the quoted price.

"Zigic certainly won't be playing in the Championship. There are clubs in England which are willing to meet the demands for him, and it is possible he will be continuing his career in the Premier League."

"Roberto Mancini admires Zigic and would love to see him at Manchester City. If Adebayor departs this summer, the transfer could happen.

"As for Redknapp, he is also heaping praise on Zigic, but he already has Crouch among his ranks."

"Much bigger clubs than those mentioned are in play, but it is not the right moment to reveal any names right now," he said.

"His career may well continue in a Bundesliga side."

Sorry if this has been mentioned before. Friends in Germany say we've made a £2 million bid for Javier Pinola from FC Nuremberg (Argentine left back, age 28)

This is from one of many news outlets reporting the same thing ............................. Godzvilla!

Aston Villa ahead of Tottenham for Nurnberg fullback Pinola
28.07.11 | tribalfootball.com

FC Nurnberg wing-back Javier Pinola has attracted a bid from Aston Villa.

BILD says Villa and Tottenham have made contact with the Germans about Pinola, 28.

And Villa have offered £2 million for the Argentine.

Nurnberg are yet to respond to Villa and are hoping Tottenham make a counter offer in the coming days.

Never heard of him? Would be nice to think we had scouts though, as all the players we're linked with usually, have played in this country.

No chance in a million years that Zigic would end up at any decent size club.
