Also, Hargreaves on a PAYP. Why not? We need a third, experienced body in there - ideally someone who can tackle (as well as play football).

He won't be able to play every week, but it'd take the pressure of Stan and Makoun a little... And allow us a third experienced head so we don't get left with Delph and Clarke in there after a couple of injuries.

Hargreaves has barely kicked a ball in 3 years.  Possibly one for January if he can get back to full fitness, and impress for Manure reserves or any club he may be loaned to.

He's been released by man u so certainly won't be in their reserves- a good player but too injury prone sadly.

Last I heard, Baggies were trying to sign Hargreaves on PAYP deal. Theres a good reason why ManUre released him and its a simple case that hes on his last legs as a professional footballer which is a great shame as he is undoubtedly a talent but if he cant stay fit then its pointless.

McLeish really feels like a new broom in a way that Houllier never was.

Agree with this, but Houllier was truly dreadful.

Sell to buy now folks.

With the amount they have spent on wages and transfer fees they had better go up

McLeish seems so calm, assured and in control compared to the last few managers we've had. I always felt MON's personality came across in our frantic style of play whereas Hou never seemed to be in control of our destiny. Here's hoping McLeish's measured personality and quiet confidence comes across in our play next season!

Serious question, what happened to the £35/40 million we were meant to be spending?

All this talk about how the board were going to back McLeish with money to spend this summer and now it seems we're only going to get 2 players.

I understand that people think we've got new and revived players in Warnock, Dunne, Collins and Ireland... (even though they've only played like 2 pre-season games) but what about the players we've lost?

I'll be happy if Warnock, Dunne, Collins and Ireland can get back to the near best form, i'm also pleased with the signings of Given and N'Zogbia with Charles hopefully signing within the next few days, but I don't think it's enough and we can't exactly just assume Warnock, Dunne, Collins and Ireland will get back to their near best just because McLeish is going to give them a second chance and only watching them in two meaningless games.

I know it'll still only be a pre-season game, but hopefully it might give us some indication on how the four players mentioned will get on in terms of attitude, effort, togetherness and continuity against Chelsea on Saturday.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before. Friends in Germany say we've made a £2 million bid for Javier Pinola from FC Nuremberg (Argentine left back, age 28)

This is from one of many news outlets reporting the same thing ............................. Godzvilla!

Aston Villa ahead of Tottenham for Nurnberg fullback Pinola
28.07.11 | tribalfootball.com

FC Nurnberg wing-back Javier Pinola has attracted a bid from Aston Villa.

BILD says Villa and Tottenham have made contact with the Germans about Pinola, 28.

And Villa have offered £2 million for the Argentine.

Nurnberg are yet to respond to Villa and are hoping Tottenham make a counter offer in the coming days.
