642 pages so far. 2 best players sold. 10+ released. A least 2 spongers still on books eg Beye & Heskey. 1 mediocre keeper signed. Reverse gear. Relegation scrap ahoy.

Had you ever even heard of Arsenio Halfhuid, Durrell Berry, Ellis Deeney and Calum Flanagan before they became part of this "Ten players released, the sky's falling in" idiocy?

When the usually full of sense PaulieBentnuts started quoting it to help illustrate how shit our summer has been I decided to become a happy-clapper.

I've only quoted it (and only in passing) due to the fact that whilst the above are unknowns, that list also included the likes of Carew and NRC who (the latter particularly) might have been of use.

We don't need 3 wingers, but do need 3 wingers/ wide midfielders imo, a Kranjcar/Cole/Benayoun type option would be nice.

Can anyone else suggest any busted flush/highlight players for us to avoid at all costs?

Also, can someone put forward foreign show-ponies to avoid?

Scott Sinclair and Scott Parker would be the 2 id like to see if finances were available , but I think a couple of decent loan signings may be our lot- there are a lot of players who may be available on loan and I wouldn't mind another city player on loan like Craig Bellamy .

David Bentley, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Niko Kranjcar, Aiden McGeady.

Just a few wide options to steer clear of..

One I would have liked was Diego Capel from Sevilla.  He's gone to Sporting Lisbon for about £3.5m.  Rated as one of the best wingers in La Liga only one or two seasons ago, and he's still young.  Lost his place as they signed Diego Perotti last season, but still a great prospect.  Shame he's gone now though.

Much as I think he's an annoying little fucker I'd love to see Bellamy at VP. One of the more naturally talened British players of recent years even if he is a bellend. I think AM would be able to get the best out of him....???!!??

Bellamy is old and very prone to injury now, and did not pull up trees in the Championship so I would worry about his ability to cut it in the prem.

McGeady on loan with a view to a permanent deal if it worked would be the best wide option for me, as he has got talent but it is unknown as to whether he could fulfil it in the prem.

Sinclair would cost a fortune from Swansea now, and maybe next summer when he has had a season in the prem he would be a more realistic target. It is a shame Naughton has gone to Norwich on loan.

I'd rather develop Lichaj as opposed to loan Naughton Ozz to be honest. Lichaj looked quite solid to me during the Gold Cup, and aside from a game or two he's done ok for us too. He's versatile too and can play both sides. If we do sell Cuellar I'd rather we got in an experienced defender that come straight in as opposed to a youngster.

I agree. I think some people are being a bit quick to forget about Lichaj. He's a solid player who can do a reliable enough job. That's all you can ask from a full back :) and with the added experience from a half season on loan to Leeds and some action at international level he will be more prepared for action should he get a chance this season.

last post meant to be sell beye and carlos and get left back in

I'm not too sure what the point of that would be, we'd be another player down and besides, we've got Warnock and Young to cover left back anyway.

Why not a left back as cover for warnock, then have luke young and eric lhjed at right back, and sell carlos

Eric Lichaj played pretty much the entire Gold Cup for the US at LB, and look quite competent to be fair. He seemed to fill in at CB also quite usefully, but he is a versatile full back in the Luke Young mould.

I like what Ive seen of Lijah, main thing for me is he looks comfortable on the ball and doesn't get flustered

Rather that spunking money oon halfwits i'd like to see him given a decent run

I'm hoping that the instruction of our two new scouts will mean a few cheap hidden gems being unveiled. Montgomery is quite savvy with France from what I gather, although I was doing quite extensive scouting in Ligue 1 myself last year in preparation for GH's first big summer! Hopefully he'll have the next N'Zogbia or Viera up his sleeve. Numan's coverage of Holland and the surrounding areas can only be a good thing, so much focus on technically sound football at youth level over there. Having a link with a club from the Dutch or Belgium top flight would also be great.

Agreed.  I hope we can sign up a quality beastlike central midfielder for peanuts.  It's one area I think is a must for the squad.
