heh. only occurred to me just now Mark. I had no idea we were down to a DOL type squad size, and half of those are youth players on very little salary wise. People have become blinded by the" we must cut down our massive squad" spin from the club, including myself

they've played a few games. I could name a load of non-entities from the youth team in DOL's time that could be included as 1st team players by that criteria - they weren't. Just kids making their way and if you really think someone like Herd has made it as a 1st team player now there's no hope for you.

I didn't say he had made it, I said he has played for the first team. Your count was based on 'knocking out youth players' which they aren't. Don't change things to suit your own mind (which seems a scary place to be).

You are full of absolute crap Greg and will twist anything to meet your own argument when in fact you can't make it stand up.

Oh and by the way, there's shit loads of hope for me, I'm very successful in both my personal and work life, so life over here in New zealand is a box f fluffies for me.

either way if you include the youth players from DOL's time then we still have a smaller squad which rather negates your point about me doctoring the figures

Just japing with you. It's not the massive squad we have to cut, it's the massive debt from signing crap and over age players on long term contracts.

The squad is a bit thin, I class Bannan, Clark, Delfouneso and Albrighton as first team players now, due to the fact the squad is thin.
However, we have Warnock, Ireland and Beye as additions, all experienced players, all have something to offer.
Throw into that mix, Delph, who again is like an addition due to the huge parts he's missed lately.
Baker, Herd & Hogg, well....Baker, especially, as a back-up/coming through player, surely has something to offer. Not sure about Herd or Hogg.

i could add ridgewell, cahill and whittingham to the DOL squad
You probably should - they all made it, and continue to make a living from football ... which is more than DOL does!

well if its not just getting the salaries down and also includes clawing all the money back from MON's bad buys then we're in deep deep shit Mark. the cupboard is bare unless we flog Bent and Gabby. Or maybe we'll start on flogging the youth team next.

Seriously though Greg, without toying with you, I'm not happy with the current squad the same that you aren't. Whereas these young guys have played first team, it puts an awful burden on them for next season if we don't make another 3-4 decent established signings.
I think we are all getting frustrated with the non signings, especially after selling two of our best players for nearly $40 mill.  (sorry no pound sign on my PC).

Well, Hogg probably got more first-team football than all the other youngsters mentioned during the second half of last season, 'cos Pompey were playing him every week.

We need another forward. Bent, amazing, Gabby, on his day. Heskey may go. Delfouneso, not convinced. Welbeck on loan. Good deal. We should try for him. He's well down the pecking order at Manchester United.

well i did include the FOnz and allbrighton in the figures even though the Fonz hasn't really done owt yet. To me the likes of Baker and clark are iyoung players who could become stars/1st team regulars or not. Wouldn't put them any higher than where the likes of Cahil were when MON took over

Delfouneso, hasn't done owt yet, youre spot on Greg, but a squad aiming for Europe needs 4 forwards.

yep. i'm certainly getting annoyed but i'm getting more annoyed with people carping on about the club needing to reduce the squad size/salaries when with the best will in the world we're going to have to rely very much on the kids this year as it stands. Maybe when the general; decides to stop hiding he'll answer a few questions about it.

Depends on if you're planning to play with one centre forward or two.

If it's the former, then we need to buy another winger/forward as well as N'Zogbia.

Lichaj played quite a bit last season too, for us and Leeds, I think he looks ok, but will probably be behind Beye as right back understudy to start so may do well to get another loan spell.  There's Lowry too who must be about 22 now, I guess we can almost write him off now.  In fact this season will probably see Burke, Cameron, Weiman, Gardner, Siegrist etc. usurp much of  the age group above them, Hogg, Herd, Lowry etc., maybe Baker, Lichaj and Delfouneso too.  I think Bannan, Albrighton and Clark are comfortably good enough and will all have strong seasons though.
