Not from the comments we've heard from mcleish- it's pretty clear he has to work with what he's got in the main - and after record losses randy clearly cannot keep spending millions without recouping.

Mcleish has done several interviews which all seem bang in line with what kendrick has reported about the transfer situation.

On the positive side he certainly got a very good reaction from the team last night and Ireland and warnock were excellent as were many others.

West brom being linked tonight with Ben foster on a season loan deal and norwich have completed the signing of Kyle naughton on a season loan.
I'm glad we didn't get Naughton on loan. Like Walker we bring along another teams player for them to say "thanks Villa, he looks good we'll have him back to play for us now". C*$ting Spurs.

I would be amazed if Ivanhoe or beye went anywhere

Didn't beye turn down ipswich on loan in Jan? He's quite content going into training everyday in his ferrari

Beye is a greedy twat who really needs to move on istead of being a reserve team player and/or a bench warmer!

maybe he wants to play.

If he wants to play, why didnt he go to another club and play there? Why doesnt he hand in a transfer request and go and apply his trade at another club ?

maybe he wants to play for us which is why he joined us in the first place

Maybe he does/did but 2 managers now have failed to use him!  MON hardly used him and GH sent him to the reserves.  Surely thats enough to tell you that "i'm not wanted or good enough here.  I should move on to a club where there is more opportunity for me to play".

you might be right Rick. But then again, MON bought a lot of players and didn't use them. GH fell out with a number of players and didn't use them. McLeish has told everyone "clean slate" so he might react positively to that.

Maybe but how many really want Habib Beye to stay at villa?  Who would rather we get some money for him and get him off our wage bill?  GH fell out with him as his attitude was rubbish and prob cuz he was rubbish. MON prob didnt use him as he really did feel he was good enough and prob regretted signing him.   Out of all the players who are being offered a clean slate, Beye is one who I wish would get lost.  I hope Warnock can rediscover the form he showed when he was first signed and I hope Ireland can live up to his potential.  Beye is too old and very very average

Change the record, we know what you think about Habib Beye. Maybe he's just been frozen out and because he doesn't whinge and complain you think he's content to play in the reserves or not play at all. Do you really know how he feels Derren Brown?

Great, so early August before our one other signing arrives.. Oh, and maybe we'll get a loan signing in. Happy Days.........

One question has occurred to me though.  What was the size of our squad when MON took over because the general opinion at the time was we were seriously undernumbered player wise but i reckon whats left now isn't far off that squad size. If we're still looking to make cuts are we going for an even smaller squad than under DOL?

You're up early Greg. Can't sleep again, worried about what's happening?
It is about time we got rid of some deadwood and used some decent youngsters, but I can see it being another year or so before we really start to build a decent squad. It's what happens when you keep changing managers.

its actually worse than i thought. Knocking out youth players who hadn't made the grade yet in both squads (rather than using hindsight) I made the squads size as follows

DOL

2 'keepers
7 defenders
6 midfielders
4 attackers

current squad

2 keepers
6 defenders (including Cueller)
5 midfielders (including delpth and allbrighton)
4 attackers (including Fonz)

Face it, this isn't stripping the club back from the excesses of the MON years - thats been done. This is serious cuts

Sorry Greg, your numbers are bullshit.

We've got 3 keepers.

Defenders we have - Dunne, Collins, Warnock, Beye, Cuellar, Young, Baker, Herd, Clarke (that's 9 without really thinking)...

Need we continue with your numbers???

larf! including a load of kids with hardly any experience. I'm talking 1st team players and reserves. I could have included the likes of Ridgewell and Cahill in the DOL squad but i didn't. More to the point a lot of are youth players are on their 1st professional contracts so they're not going to be adding to the wage bill massively

Do you ever go to Villa Greg? Clarke, Baker & Herd all played last season they are not kids without any experience.

Get your head out of your fucking arse and stop being a drama queen.

they've played a few games. I could name a load of non-entities from the youth team in DOL's time that could be included as 1st team players by that criteria - they weren't. Just kids making their way and if you really think someone like Herd has made it as a 1st team player now there's no hope for you.

So let's get this straight, you're including the Fonz but not including Bannan and Clark who both played more games than him last season? I would hardly class half a season as a few games.

according to kendrick the other day if cuellar goes villa will not be looking at signing any more defenders.
i know we knock him but he was right when he said there was only money available for a keeper and maybe he does have more of a clue than we think.

i think we may see a £2m signing and perhaps a loan or 2deal if we are lucky.

i incuded the Fonz to make it look a bit better. By all means take him out and add clark or bannon. but then i could add ridgewell, cahill and whittingham to the DOL squad which i haven't. Whatever way you look at it we have a smaller squad than in DOL's time. These are not just cuts, these are M&S down to the bone cuts.

Why do we have to drag in dross benchwarmers when we have a rook of quality kids coming through who need experience.
We aren't in Europe so won't be playing two matches a week.
Most of these youngsters should have gained more playing time under MoN, instead they were sidelined to accommodate overpaid wasters.

One question has occurred to me though..

Who nicked the 'T' from your sig? Surely it should read ' H&V's Voice of Treason since the last century.
