I'm sure I heard McLeish say It'll be one major signing before the start of the season. Can anyone confirm this? I read into that, that we have other irons in the fire which might need to be sorted before the window closes. I think this will be the case for many other clubs as well. I'm not too stressed at the mo for some reason. I have faith I suppose, blind faith maybe.

It would take a miracle to shift some of them as we found out with MFH. Championship players on top6 wages

if those wages are true thats over 8 million quid a year !!!

who sanctioned this?

If it's true, it would be just over £6m per year.

And why would it be true? I don't think there's ever been any suggestion that Cuellar is being paid that much.

Sorry I had included all 3 players wages quoted when adding up.

I wouldnt begrudge any player that kind of money if they were utilised but they werent at all

Have Heskey Beye and Cuellar all got one year left on their contracts?

Think all 3 are just a year left. Realistically if we can see this season out with NZogbia and maybe Naughton and that Mariga lad coming in, then next summer the wage bill would be almost half of last summer going in.

Since last summer started we have shed a fair amount.

Mliner - 3m
Young - 3m
Downing - 2.5m
Friedel - 3m
Reo Coker - 2m
Carew - 3m
Sidwell - 2.5m
Eugene Davies - 1.5m
Shorey - 1.5m
Gardner - 1m

So 22.5 million or so.

Coming in, lets assume NZogbia comes

Ireland 2.5
Bent 2.5
Makoun 2
Given 2.5
NZogbia 2.5

So we about 10 million up wages wise at the moment. Not counted loans away and in or the smaller wages for the likes of Salifou, Osbourne etc... From here maybe the policy will be whoever goes is replaced younger and on a lower wage. Cuellar goes, Naughton comes in on half the money for example.

Beye is a greedy twat who really needs to move on istead of being a reserve team player and/or a bench warmer!

Don't see a reason to blast him for that, no evidence of him not trying or bitching about things. Good luck to him, blame the board for his contract.

If he wants to play, why didnt he go to another club and play there? Why doesnt he hand in a transfer request and go and apply his trade at another club ?

I still don't fully understand the desperation to pay whatever Whelan wants. Yes, off course we need to sign players, but the transfer market is almost dormant right now. Outside of the initial burst of action with arguably a whole series of inflated deals, the market has almost come to a halt because there really isn't the sense of urgency for any of the selling teams. Every day that goes will make deals more likely, but almost every year there's a lull caused due to brinkmanship between the buyer/seller and agents/players.

The world knows now we want to sign N'Zogbia. The player allegedly wants to come here, and Whelan knows he has to sell. We're the only club that have made a firm offer for him, and if another club wanted to bid for him and meet Whelan's asking price they would have. This deal will be settled because something will break the impasse and the deal will be announced as undisclosed to save face for all concerned.

This is why the transfer window is crap. It creates a false sense of desperation, and as ever most deals get done when the pressure increases for all concerned.

So youre happy for him to continue getting paid excessive amounts of money by sitting on the bench and playing reserve team football when we could be investing that money in someone else who could be playing instead of him?  Great Theory!  Might as well bring back Salifou and Osbourne!
