The £11million in management fees Lerner charged the club probably doesn't help.

If that is true, and the signing is N'Zogbia, then that will mean we've sold Young AND Downing for almost 40 million pounds and reinvested only just over a quarter of it.

That is on top of releasing, what, ten players this summer.

Nowhere near sufficient, and smacks of an owner who doesn't care anymore.
Also, how much tv money do we get every year? Why aren't we dipping in to that as well?
My thoughts precisely.
And gate money.
And league placing money
And good cups runs
And sponsorship
And commercial activities.

People go on about how much Lerner has 'put into the club', but fucking hell, there is some income being generated.

Other than spunking it all on managerial compensation,  I really would like to know where the money actually goes.

80 odd % was going on wages wasn't it?  Hence the drive to reduce the wage bill.

"Imagine what a manager like mcleish could do with a chairman that backed him", well Mr Krulak if randy doesn't back him and he doesn't do great, he's a ex bluenose and he'll get fuckin slaughtered and I think you'll be quite shocked by the vitriol that washes down off the holte like a tidal wave!

Just shows what utter fucking tosh Randys mouthpiece actually talks. No wonder he doesn't want to speak for himself!!!

Actually there is nothing wrong with the "only one more" comment. Just think about it. McLeish needs to understand the basic strength of the squad before adding to it. It would be foolish to spend money on wholesale purchases and ending up  with inadequate  players incapable of improving  our team's fortune.

It would be  proper and prudent to hold on till January of even next summer before making any big steps.

Perhaps I was misguided but I'm convinced I read/heared that the Young cash was to finance what we spent on Bent.  All AM has left is what he makes - i.e Downing.

Aftab: Wouldn't he understand the squad's strengths & weaknesses from speaking to his colleagues (eg Sid), looking at previous matches, remembering how he prepared his team to cope with us last season, etc. Also, I'm sure he'll have spoken to Ged before and after joining Villa. Waiting absolute ages before signing somebody is a MoN excuse. A few injuries and we'll be screwed.

Yeah because the squad was strong enough last season, and we've just sold three of our best players. If he keeps us up it will be a success in the boards eyes.

Another take: there's no commercial reason we should be any better off than everton. Our attendances, league success, cup runs, fan base, commercial revenue, tv income will all be broadly similar. We have however paid much more in the way of fees and wages. I'm afraid that's what the premier league looks like now. Randy has put a ton of cash in, there's just no denying that. Remember when the accounts came out showing we were spending 85% of turnover on wages? Well it was always pretty likely we were going to end up in this position.

Just saw the news report on sky about balancing the books. No wonder he was so desperate to get McLeish. It's like Doug all over again, punishing the fans for foolishly over spending in previous years. Hurry up, get the money back you've spent and sell up!!!

Just saw McLeish on sky news. Either it was a PR feck up that would infuriate Malcom Tucker  or it was the cat being let out of the bag. Looked more like the latter to me.
