like it or not maz and sandman the facts are that unless aston villa up the bid then they we will not get nzogbia!

make an offer of £10m and we will get him -if you dont like it dont pay it , but we will be the losers !

whats to stop nzogbia saying fuck this, villa are messing about so ill stay where i am and go somewhere else next season -he doesnt have to sign for villa and can hold out for everton or whoever on a free.

And how exactly does that benefit Wigan?

He wants to leave, they want to sell, we want to buy, no other club have bid; we're in a strong negotiating position.

could be villa and wigan both lose out and he decides rather than go to villa to wait till his contract ends and maybe get a better offer from a bigger club !

I see, so I've just been reading how shrewd Whelan is yet now you think he'll give up on £9m for the sake of an extra £1m. Doesn't seem very likely. As I said we're in a strong position and we don't need to cave in just because he's playing to the crowd and some of you can't wait.

seems the very same slagging off whelan for sticking to his guns are the ones who praised randy for doing exactly the same thing when liverpool wanted barry.

you either believe hes worth £10m and pay the money or you dont and look elsewhere-stop moaning because that nasty mr whelan wont rollover and let you tickle his tummy!

Barry had two years left when Liverpool were after him, so that gave us some negotiating strength as we could still get something for him in the following Jan or summer windows.  Wigan do not have that same negotiating position.

And there's actually a third option, which is that you refuse to get messed about by Wigan and stick to your £9m bid, which was their original asking price.  The closer 31/8 comes without anyone else bidding the more nervous they'll get.

What's he on at Wigan £20k a week?  If we're offering £60k then that's £2m he'll have lost out on.  And as NRC is finding out there are no guarantees another club will be there in 12 months.

Regardless of haggling with Wigan over the price, I think the player wants to come and will jump at the chance, admittedly more for the money than any love of Villa, should it be there.

true john hence our asking price being £20m and wigans being £10m - ultimately whether whelan or mcleish like it or not if nzogbia decides to see out his last year and see who comes in for him on a free there is nothing villa or wigan can do about it -wigan may need to sell but if it doesnt suit nzogbia then he can wait and have a clutch of clubs after him on a free and may well be better off doing so.

You do realise that the argument of the player deciding to stay for the final year makes the amount we offer, be it £9m or £10m, pointless, don't you?

yes but all this waiting around is doing nobody including nzogbia any favours - he may well get pissed off and say stuff it ill stay and walk away on  free and get better offers- far more clubs would want nzogbia on a free than reo-coker.

anyway im off site until its sorted one way or the other as im sick of it all dragging on.

It seems to be in the modern day of the information super highway.

Few years ago and teletext wouldn't have been able to keep up the speed we've been moving this summer ;)

ah teletext.  The days of pre sky when you used to follow your team on the "live" updates.  Just a bit of green and red font to either make your day or crush your hopes.

I believe, should we sign him, that AM is to ban the traditional end of season party for the players.  He's afraid there's be Pjanic on the dance floor.

I really don't see why we should cave to that gurning fossil Whelan. We've made a solid offer for a player that wants to join us. Whelan's hardly flush and eventually Martinez is going to want to spend a bit himself to help his own cause. Playing Mr. Big Bollocks is all good and well when you are awash with cash. Wigan aren't and Martinez is going to need to time to bring in his own players. This deal will be settled sooner rather than later. It would be nice to have him on board, but it's not going to kill us.

As for players settling in, Darren Bent didn't need a pre-season with us to hit the ground running. I think it's very overrated, and good players will adjust quickly. He'll be in shape from training at Wigan, and he'll be told to work hard to win the ball back, run at the defence, score a few and FIND DARREN BENT with some good passes when he joins us. Hardly difficult tactics to learn.

BBC WM just tweeted that we will make "one more signing" before the start of the season...not that I believe it (or rather hope it's not true) but it should cause a few meltdowns.. ;)

That better not be the case.
