Cj - it was wolves who we wouldn't pay the fee for keane, Coventry then signed him from wolves and virtually doubled their money by selling him to inter Milan not much more than a year later.

Wasn't that around the same time we signed Bosko Balaban for just under £6M??

I recall Keane bid and Balaban signing were both under Gregory's management.
Sir Alex Ferguson was in the paper saying he wouldn't pay £500k for Robbie Keane, let alone the extra £500k Wolves wanted from us. Then Doug pulled the deal IIRC.

not according to gregory , he said doug was prepared to pay up for keane , but when gregory went to watch him he had a stinker and wolves fans were urging him to buy him which he said he found very strange-gregory pulled out not doug- read johns autobiography.

N'Zonzi and N'Zogbia in the same side?! A commentator's nightmare.

We should follow up by getting Ngog from Liverpool, too. Then we'd have some fun.

We're not in a position to piss around with this deal. Our squad is way understrength going into pre-season. Once again the board have shot themselves in the foot by releasing Downing without a firm replacement coming in immediately. Dumb-ass Faulkner! We have to bite the bullet and pay the £10M which in today's market is not unreasonable.

I also think we shouldn't have sold Downing until we had a replacement

Well it might cause DW to break out into a sweat

Is that the same Vargas who yesterday the Mail claimed we had no interest whatsover? It makes you wonder if anyone actually knows anything

This is why we need to sort out Nzogbia one way or another because the longer it goes on the sillier it will get?

We're not going to alter our position on N'Zogbia because some internet pants pissers who are watching too much Sky Sports News are getting twitchy especially if Whelan is moving the goalposts price wise. The oaf has made clear he is desperate to sell and needs the money, the player is desperate to get out of the pie and bingo hall filled shithole and we are the only interested party. If you are buying a used car at auction and no one else is bidding you do not bid against yourself.

If Rent-a-gob Whelan wants to play hard-ball or move up the price as is rumoured then we should buy someone else (someone good so not SWP) and go back later in the window when Whelan is really desperate to sell. If we bid £10million now he will probably ask £11/£12million.

N'Zogbia must hand a transfer request in.

Then it's game on.

To be fair we went that line with Downing, so we can't exactly argue if Wigan want the same from him.

utter bollocks sandman- if we bid £10m now the deal would be wrapped up and done-its a fair asking price!
ive seen ssn about 20 minutes in the last 8 days and i dont need them to tell me the situation, whelan is doing whats best for wigan and is a getting a fair price for a good player at £10m.

DW just wants his "little Wigan defeated a big club in the transfer market" PR story to gloat about in the media.

I can see it now: "Charles has been a great great player for our little club Wigan, but we place a value on our best players and we are not going to be forced to sell him as he loves this club as much as we love him. Aston Villa have been a pleasure to work with and now that they have met our valuation, I am sure Charles will be a fantastic player for them".

Pay the money, get it done. Wigan will need the extra £1m more than we do when they are relegated next season.

Lets be honest we dont know the finer points of the offer but 10 million for Nzogbia is a fair price.

The quicker we pay, the quicker we get the player, the quicker he starts training, the quicker he settles in.

Bugger me it's not something Steven Hawking needs to work out
