tbh, insomnia isnt any better...

he changed the goalposts on small heath last year regarding wages...

hes a good player, but 'suspect' character wise at best...

personally, i hope we move on, although not onto the likes of swp and mcgeady...

That's a good point

AM tries to sign him and then at the last minute he starts moving the goalposts which begs the question wouldn't that have put AM off trying to sign him again??

That extra money they refused to pay Nzog would have kept them up it's that simple.

N'zog needs to be signed.

As the prospect of Eck coming up with SWP and McGeady as replacements for Young and Downing isn't filling me with much enjoyment for this season.

Well we didn't show any balls in our manager search but hey thats a different story, what stinks about this is we paid up Birmingham for McLeish even though we said he was a free agent. So now to have the high and mighty approach when we need a specific type of player stinks.

I guess there's two sides to it; we may decide we won't get taken for mugs by Wigan after meeting the asking price of £9m and then seeing them raise it.  Or we think "Fuck it - it's only £1m" and pony up.

Not sure which way I'd jump, but with no other buyers I'd say we have the advantage.

I'd go completely the other way and go back with an offer of £8 million on the basis that Wheelan is a cheeky c**t.  Then, when no further offers come in Wheelan will bite our hand off on the basis it's shown as an undisclsoed fee.  As soon as it's all signed sealed and delivered RL makes it known publicly how he shafted Wheelan and made him look the t**t that he is.

Cj - it was wolves who we wouldn't pay the fee for keane, Coventry then signed him from wolves and virtually doubled their money by selling him to inter Milan not much more than a year later.

Wasn't that around the same time we signed Bosko Balaban for just under £6M??

I recall Keane bid and Balaban signing were both under Gregory's management.

Whelan is full of shit, and is only trying to drive thr price up. He was quoted at the end of last season saying they need to sell Nzogbia as he's coming into the last year of his contract, now he says they don't wanna sell him.

Give them the 10 million, get him in the squad for when they go to HK on Saturday, and move onto the next target, hopefully a CB.

What I dont get is people suggesting we're doing the right thing by haggling, wouldnt it be better to pay the £10m and have N'Zog ready and on our tour to Hong Kong? I could understand playing hardball IF we still had Downing as we could cope without.

Oh and Corluka is NOT bobbins! A quality defender we'd be lucky to have. A cheeky £12m double bid for Kranjcar and Corluka would be awesome although Id be happy enough with Hutton & Kranjcar.

I see Blackburn have bid for Honda, another player I'd love to have a VP.

Growing speculation that Parker is very likely to rejoin Chelsea- sad but no surprise really.

Unless this is a loan deal, I think it would be a mistake for him.  He'll play for half a season until Essien is fit again and then only be seen in the League Cup.  None of which helps us though, as we'd need to pay a lot more than his price for a similar, if younger, player for our midfield.

I agree with that, John. Parker has already been burned once by Chelsea - the big move of his career and it backfired, setting him back years. Not even sure he'll play that much even when Essien is injured - if they get Modric they'll surely be looking to accommodate him, Lampard, Mikel and Ramires into their midfield, not to mention McEachran, the young lad who's making decent progress and has just signed a five-year deal. He's a deep-lying central midfield player.

Exactly, i'm terrifed what the press will print if we don't pay exactly what Wigan want straight away.

Look, the buying club always bids below what the selling club want, it happens all the time and it will happen again. Who knows, Wigan might have accepted the £9m but they have'nt and it's up to us to increase the bid if we want him. Bearing in mind Mcleish has tried to sign him before and we're not that far away from the asking price, i'm sure it will get done. A bit of paitence is all that's needed i think.
