habib Beye will have cost us 8 million and yet we are umming and arrghhhing over a million?

I hope the alleged reluctance isn't part of a conspiracy to say "well we tried to sign but Wigan wouldn't play so welcome our new signings SWP and Jimmy Krankie"

Growing speculation that Parker is very likely to rejoin Chelsea- sad but no surprise really .

Whelan is not going to roll over and accept the £9m whatever people may think- the next bid however will be accepted at an undisclosed fee , so let's get it signed and sealed and get nzogbia nicely settled well before the season starts.

Is it by the sea?

Playing hardball over 1m is pointless. Pay the 10m, get him in and linked up with the lads. He's the perfect signing and if we don't make it we're making a huge mistake.

Bit of sabre rattling from Whelan, he's already on the record as saying that he's got to be sold this window. If clubs like us and Arsenal have to sell players rather than let them run down their contracts then Wigan have no chance of keeping him.

I'm with the club here, Wigan have to sell or risk missing out on what would be a massive amount of money for them. As it sounds like none of the other likely destinations can afford him I'm happy to sit and wait and get the best business deal for Aston Villa.

If it's true that they originally said 9 million and have now changed their minds because they think we have more than that to splash around then I'm with the club even more so. Some people are just too impatient.

Fair enough - if he wants £10m I think it's a fair price by modern standards and I think we should just pay if and get it done.

You sit and wait then jockey, but the next move will not be made by whelan - the ball is in faulkners court and whereas other clubs get their business done this just makes us look even more Smalltime in the eyes of the media and other fans - the benefit is to get him in and settled now not piss about for weeks haggling over it, if villa really want him then they pay the money which is a fair price.

As usual suspect says we have pissed away millions on shit signings and wages - here is a player we need at a fair price and we dither about it- do the deal and move on.

I don't think we are in a position to piss around and play all high and mighty over a fee considering the Downing deal. We need N'Zogbia more than a lot of our rivals do.

The price was £9m which apparently we've offered. Dave 'lookatme' Whelan has now upped the price - fair enough if he thinks he can get it, but a dangerous game of brinkmanship which could backfire on him if no-one else comes in with a comparable offer, and at the minute it looks like we're the only ones interested at that price.

On the one hand it's tempting to tell Whelan to take it or we'll go elsewhere and maybe go back in January with a much lower offer.

On the other hand going elsewhere may see us sign McGeady or SWP (*shudder*) and Whelan will know this. He also knows we're desperate for a winger having lost both Young and Downing.

I remember when we wouldn't pay Coventry the extra half million for Robbie Keane and missed out on what was then a really good young player. So we should go back with a compromise final offer of £9.5m and tell him to take it or we're off elsewhere
