Not Villa related but you have to laugh at this Mirror story on BBC Gossip

Quote
Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero prepared to take a pay cut to join Manchester City.

Like he would need to. The club that is paying YaYa Toure £220k per week can afford to pay more than Atletico Madrid.

Italian press are saying El Loco is definitely coming.

Definitely coming? Any links?

Sorry Maz I can't remember where I read it. I've been all over the shop today.

N'Zogbia AND Vargas is quite optimistic, but if we genuinely want both players and willing to pay x amount in wages and transfer fee it could happen. It'd be a cracking bit of buisness... sell Young and Downing for nearly 40 million, buy two quality wingers for replacements AND still make a big profit.

Did someone say Italian media thinks he's coming to us?

Now with Given signed hopefully this week is MOVING WEEK regarding transfers.

Ive checked on Newsnow and it seems there's some chatter about Vargas. Dont know if its just them rehashing reports from over here though.
It sure would be nice if there was something in it.

There's no reason why we cant go for Vargas AND N'Zogbia.

We'll need both as Vargas will be suspended for more games than he plays. He ain't called 'El Loco' for nothing.

I'm all for one or two spirited players. As long as they're not Joey Barton spirited.

Anyway, it seems a lot of latin american players have to have a nickname. El something or other.
I bet there's a player called El somethingorother.

I'll be pleasantly stunned if we could get Vargas, but I honestly can't see it happening.  Surely he wouldn't be discussing his future until after the Copa America anyway?

Alex McLeish hopes to persuade Scott Parker to join Aston Villa this week, when the new Villa manager looks to begin spending the proceeds of Stewart Downing's £20m sale on Charles N'Zogbia, Shay Given and the West Ham captain.

The deal with Wigan Athletic for N'Zogbia has already been agreed and the player, who will cost around £10m, should sign this week. Manchester City want £5m for Given and have already rejected a bid of £2m from Villa but should settle for between £3m and £4m.

This from the Independent. Interesting that they have NZogbia as the definite transfer and Shay Given as not finalised.

I find that Given not finalised is rather behind the times considering he's be touring BH and chatting with his mate Dunne about dying to start. I would have thought remaining loose ends were tied up this weekend and he'll be announced tomorrow. N'Zogbia I think will be this week also.

There are question marks regarding Parker in my opinon. While you'd think he's going to want to play as much as possible in the last 5 or so years of his career, Chelsea is the more glamorous option, and he wouldn't have to move. That said, he'd get more regular football with us in a European Championship year. If he can replicate the West Ham form with us then he'll certainly be on the plane to the tournament. If he gets lost on the bench it might hurt his chances but then again he gets CL football.

As for Vargas, he's a very good player and would give us a very exciting signing. I just don't see anything in for a few weeks seeing as he's at Copa America for a little while longer. It would be great though.

I still think Scott Dann might join with Cuellar heading to Spain, and a full back as we are quite light at that position. Lichaj will come on this season, but if Warnock doesn't rediscover his game then we will need help there. I expect Heskey to go, so maybe a forward also towards the end of the window. All in all, around 6-7 in, and likely 2 more to depart.

Vargas and Nzogbia having both played as left-backs could hopefully offer Warnock some decent cover so he doesn't feel the need to recklessly dive into challenges.

I read earlier that we had upped our bid to £11m.

would be a bit silly when they are asking for £10m , apparently we offered £9m , lets pay the cash and get im in.

Does anyone know if Vargas played against us in that friendly last year? I was very impressed with their left sided number 6 in that game but can't mind his name.

I find that Given not finalised is rather behind the times considering he's be touring BH and chatting with his mate Dunne about dying to start.
But other media outlets yesterday (ST; Ian Taylor on Twitter) had said the fee was agreed at £3.5m and the medical conducted. So, no reason not to announce today.
