I think Chelsea have the right idea with Parker. A 4m loan fee for him is decent value, not that they're worried about value. Mebbe we've offered a permanent deal to try and knock them out of the bidding - If not i'm not sure why we're not looking at that option

I would'nt believe a word that lying cockney says. He enjoys every minute of winding down his car window and opening his big mouth to the press.

Exactly. If the deal doesn't make financial sense to him beacuse he's 30, why did it make sense last summer when he was 29?

Because there was an extra year in him.

He tried to sign him in January, so an extra 4 months of football.

It's the same as all the bollocks he came out with when he was trying to sign Kaboul for Pompey about nothing happening because he was going to Villa. He's a wheeler, dealer and you cannot take anything he says at face value.

Is'nt there some video footage knocking about of a reporter calling him a wheeler and dealer and he loses his rag with him?

This is it, it's quite amusing.

£4m to keep someone for just a year. No thanks, that's ridiculous.

Much as I admire Parker and the extent to which he'd improve the team, you can't get away from the cost: he's exactly the type of signing - in financial terms - that brought about our current problems and that we should now be trying to avoid.

works out at better value than 30m over 3 years. Plus if he gets injured or is bobbins he's west ham's problem. No signing on fee either and obviously if he's a success a year later we've got the option to buy him again - for less.

I checked Scott's age  (born 13 October 1980) and he is almost 32. Not good idea. I mean he probably have 2 season left.  I would rather risk it with the French U19 Captain and defensive midfielder we were linked in January. There are plenty of defensive midfielders out there.

I'm not sure it's a problem signing an older player on fairly big wages if it's an isolated case for a quality player. I think we can accommodate that, as he'd have a big impact on the team. Where we struggled is signing players like Beye on big wages on long contracts just to sit on the bench.

No, he isn't. If we buy him he'll be a nailed on starter rather than a fringe player. Yes it's a lot of money but for what he'd bring to the side and the positive influence he'd have on the younger players he'd be worth it, in my opinion.

Sadly, I feel the board are more likely to look at it from an accountants perspective like you and Greg rather than from a football one.

I totally agree with you from a footballing point of view.  But if we can't afford it, we can't afford it.  And if we can't afford it, it's partly because we've already got a lot of money tied up in ageing players on fat contracts with little or no resale value.

How the fuck has Harry come up with this £30m over 3 years bullshit?

Let's say £7m transfer fee to West Ham and be generous and say £1m signing on fee to Parker (which would include agent fees).

That would mean paying Parker £141k a week!

We'll get a centre half on a loan or on the cheap IMO, and that's all we need.

People will moan, but I could see Jiranek coming in on a one year deal or something.

Young, Beye, Dunne, Collins, Clark, Jiranek, Warnock, Baker.

I'm in the get Joey Barton camp. As well as the value and age thing, I think after the plaudits he got last season he really fancies a crack at the England team. He  knows he needs to get his head down if that's ever going to happen.
