I'd probably go along with Barton being better value than Parker. The problem is the man himself. Could be like lobbing a hand-grenade in the dressing room.

One down?  Though seeing as it's 'arry, expect Spurs to wrap this up by Monday morning:

Quote
REDKNAPP DOUBTS PARKER MOVE
By Pete O'Rourke

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has admitted the club are unlikely to move for West Ham star Scott Parker.

The England midfielder is expected to leave Upton Park as he seeks to stay in the Premier League following the Hammers' relegation.

Aston Villa are believed to have made a £7million bid for Parker, while Chelsea have been strongly linked with a loan move for the England international as they seek cover for the injured Michael Essien.

Redknapp has never hidden his admiration for Parker and the Spurs boss has been tipped to make a new move for the 30-year-old after seeing a bid to sign the former Newcastle man rebuffed last summer.

However, Redknapp insists Spurs are unlikely to move for the England international due to the finances involved.

"If you take into account the fee of around £8m, signing on fees and wages you're talking about a £30m deal," Redknapp told the Sunday Mirror.

"There is no way the club would sanction a deal for a 30-year-old who would have no resale value at the end of his contract."

Bringing in Parker amongst others also looks good to players like Bent, because he was footballer of the year last year. That factor shouldn't be underestimated.

Lets hope we don't get an injury crisis like last season.  We'd struggle to field a team currently.

That's exactly my thoughts. That almost caused our relegation last season - only the desperate move for Bent in January saved us. This is the risk you run by operating with a ''small'' squad. Have we ever had decent squad numbers before pre-season games, particularly under Lerner?

It's not just resale you've got to think about though. say we forked out 30m for Parker, even if he's a great success, we'd still need to pay similar again in 3 years time. Buying someone at 25-26 means you have the option of cashing in at the end of his contract or getting another 3 or 4 years out of him. After all this getting rid of older players on high wages, signing Parker would be a bit of an about-turn by the board to say the least.
Bringing Parker in now would give us a great boost, I feel, but there is strong competition out there, and Spurs/Chelsea loan stuff may suit him at the moment.
A bit pie in the sky perhaps, but I'd love Milner back. Would he leave the bench at Citeh to come and run the show for us again?

Aye. Milner is just pie in the sky really though. The wages would be out of our range and he probably still fancies his chances of at least holding down a 1st team place in that team

Even when we were spending big  we still couldn't keep our best players. Unless we're in a CL place at the end of next season, Bent will be targeted if he continues last season's form, Parker or no Parker.

I would'nt believe a word that lying cockney says. He enjoys every minute of winding down his car window and opening his big mouth to the press.

Exactly. If the deal doesn't make financial sense to him beacuse he's 30, why did it make sense last summer when he was 29?

Because there was an extra year in him.

He tried to sign him in January, so an extra 4 months of football.

It's the same as all the bollocks he came out with when he was trying to sign Kaboul for Pompey about nothing happening because he was going to Villa. He's a wheeler, dealer and you cannot take anything he says at face value.

Is'nt there some video footage knocking about of a reporter calling him a wheeler and dealer and he loses his rag with him?

Finally a rumour to be truly excited about:

"Leicester manager Sven Goran Eriksson is planning a £2million move for Aston Villa's Emile Heskey, 33."

Oh please.

Really lazy journalist space filler though I'm afraid.
