True Clampy, but this is Villa 2011 and we have to sell before we can buy.
Surely you must realise we knew downing was going and that money was coming in, amd also transfer fees are usually paid in instruments not up front.

It's always wise to have replacements sorted before selling and I think maybe nzogbia will prove a done deal very soon.

We didn't know that the Downing money was coming in until Liverpool met the asking price. The N'Zogbia rumours have been circulating for some time which suggests that he's been sounded out. It's illegal to talk officially to players until a bid is accepted so it's impossible to go public until given permission by the selling club.

I would argue that N'Zogbia would be Young's replacement.

That should be the case.

Sky sports reporting Carlos Cuellar is on his way back to Rangers after the two clubs agreed a £2million fee.

Out-

Young £16m
Downing £20m
Cuellar.£2m
Reo- Coker free
freidal  free
In-

Given. £3.5m
Dann.  £12m
Parker. £8m
Nzogbia £12m

I'd be happy enough with that and we would probably not have spent anymore on fees or wages than we recouped. Sorry to see Carlos go though.

If we sign N'Zogbia then I'd expect him and Albrighton to be our wide players next season. If we'd signed him without selling Downing that would have given us two left footed wingers and Marc's prospects reduced.

Things are actually happening. Bids for two targets confirmed, Given pretty much wrapped up. Finally we may have something to celebrate at Villa Park this window.

Yeah I would be happy with that also and feel the same about Carlos, is the feeling that Dunne and Colins are not good enough with Clark as back up? Id be more than happy with Dann but would like another attacking option if we got rid of Heskey

I'd add Joe Cole to that list.  We're talking to Liverpool about it according to the BBC Gossip column.  A loan would be my guess.  What would people make of that?

Going back a page or two, am I the only one that would be sort of OK with SWP coming in?

I don't think the Vargas thing is gonna happen, but do expect us to sign N'Zogbia, and am quite happy with the prospect of him and Marc on the wings.  But as sothers have pointed out there wouldn't be any other natural wingers at the club, so that could prove to be a problem.  If we're going to get someone in as backup, can we realistically expect a better calibre of player than SWP to come sit on our bench?  So if the financial package is sensible, I'd be OK with it.  Whether or not he'd be OK with swapping Man City's bench for ours though is another question!

Has there been anything to prompt you including Dann, Eastie, or is it just wishful thinking?

When you Say Liverpool met the asking fee chris that suggests we told them what we wanted so what was the point publicly saying not for sale at any price ?

Of course we knew he was going to go - and of course players are tapped up behind the scenes, as pardew said nzogbia already has an imminent move lined up- does anyone really believe he or his agent have had no contact with villa ?

What I make of it is that the BBC Gossip column just links to whatever bullshit story the press are running with that day.  I hope and expect this to be one of those.
