No question Whelan is trying to start a bidding war.  All this talk of Everton and Sunderland and Newcastle.  I reckon whoever signs him will end up paying about £14m.

Just a hyperthetical thought but re the delay over signing Given... maybe now we are at peace with the feckwits down the road Foster is back on the radar.
Nzogbia - get him in
Parker - would be a good spine of the team and a good player + a leader
Wells Vargas - don't know anything about him to be honest.

No it's because, just like Dunne & Ireland, Man City fuck about with the pay offs despite knowing that they need to cough up because of the ridiculous wages they play.

Whelan also said nzogbia had no interest in going back to Newcastle, given deal all sorted and just waiting on man city agreeing his severance terms - I think we will see given, dann, and nzogbia in the next few days and possibly Parker too- that would be 4 class signings.

Reports cuellar fee agreed at £2m.

We don't really know how far down the road this deal is, but it should have been tied up before we even agreed to let Downing speak to Liverpool.

True Clampy, but this is Villa 2011 and we have to sell before we can buy.

Surely you must realise we knew downing was going and that money was coming in, amd also transfer fees are usually paid in instruments not up front.

It's always wise to have replacements sorted before selling and I think maybe nzogbia will prove a done deal very soon.

Surely we had £10M to add a player regardless of who we had sold after losing Young, Reo-coker, Friedel?

I would have been disappointed if we hadn't have added a player in that range even keeping Downing

We didn't know that the Downing money was coming in until Liverpool met the asking price. The N'Zogbia rumours have been circulating for some time which suggests that he's been sounded out. It's illegal to talk officially to players until a bid is accepted so it's impossible to go public until given permission by the selling club.

I would argue that N'Zogbia would be Young's replacement.
