anyone had a look at rodallega's goal scoring record at wigan? he has never scored more than ten goals. Granted Wigan are shit but Gabby has scored far more goal. Keep Gabby ahead of signing Rodallega for me anyway.

I would've taken Rodallega last summer but we don't need him as we have enough strikers, particularly if it's 4-5-1 as I don't buy this McCleish 4-4-2, can you really see him playing that away from home?!

We need defenders and midfielders in before another striker.

Every summer window since Randy has been here we've spent heavily, with the exception of the last one, which he more than made up for in the following January.  Yes, there may have been a change in approach behind the scenes following the game-changing Man City takeover and the altered larger financial climate, but if nothing else this board have earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to back their manager in the transfer market.

I think people are still hung up on the appointment of Mcleish to the point where everything the board now do, or do not do, is recieved with negative spin.  Get over it.  You don't like the manager, but just because they've made an unpopular decision does not mean they've become the source all evil!

Yes, but the board are not sending the right signals to our top players. The board's current strategy is causing these players to seek success elsewhere because they realise they will not achieve top four status here. I accept there's no cast-iron guarantee of achieving top four but at least give the players hope. We have zero chance now of the top four or even top-six. Can you honestly say that the club is moving forwards?

I don't care either way for AM

I think he has been bought in as a yes man who has been told he has minimal funds and he has to work with what he's got

If we're really waiting for the Downing money before AM can make any substantial moves in the transfer market then we're up shit creek basically. Keeper, centre half, left-back, right back ,young replacement, Downing replacement, centre midfielder all from the Downing money??

The club have said that it's not so much about transfer fees, it is about the wage bill.

The issue is that, even if we sold Downing for loads of money, then went and used it to get all the players you mentioned, we'd have considerably increased our wage bill when we're trying to decrease it.

I've a horrible feeling we're going to have to shift more guff (thinking specifically of Beye and Heskey here) off the wage bill before we can start to do things.

You may have a point usual suspect, probably would explain the lack of Benitez , Carlo etc who wouldnt be interested in taking a job in such conditions .

I think that was why Martinez was approached, go to a big club, be in awe of it and then get walked over by the board.

Obviously I hope AM is successful but based on everything that is going on at VP at the moment (or not going on) I think we are in the shit

In fairness paulie, the club are hardly going to come out and say we have no money to spend considering they need to sell tickets- it's hard to know what to believe anymore , and that excitement and buzz from 5 yrs ago has long gone , without huge investment we will not challenge and it seems that kind of money isn't available anymore.

That's the point - the club's PR is abysmal. What grounds for optimism have they given? Even Wolves and Stoke are spending more than us!

Just get Given, Hutton & N'zogbia. Thats basic need, surplus? Get Parker or Krancjar, thats all for this window.
And get rid of Downing  ( 20 m ) & Beye.

Totally agree, the pr at the club is awful , at least with doug we had some idea of things even though he could be frustrating at times - the departure of Steve stride was a big loss and I really feel Faulkner is well out of his depth in the football business.

Big like putting a butcher in charge of a bakers.

The PR or lack of it has been mentioned numerous times on these boards - doesn't General Charles Krulak read or take note of this - or is it just ignored? Steve Stride was indeed a big loss.

The lack of anyone with a football experience background is what concerns me - stride worked his way through the club over many years and learnt his trade whereas Faulkner came in from the banking side and seems very limited- ok randy doesn't want to speak but surely he could do a page on the official site now and again , as for the general he seems a decent man but again his football experience is very limited.

Hang on a minute.  Randy was the graceful antithesis of Doug when things were going well.  Now he's some kind of PR disaster who never speaks to us?

Which one is it?
