My reading of that, in the remote possibility that any of it is true, is that the Parker deal would represent a lot of money (£7m + £70k a week for 4 years = £21.5m) with little or no re-sale value.  He's be a good player for us, IMO, but it's probably right that the club are thinking about it carefully first.  Were he 26 it's a no-brainer, so I think we could afford to do it, but are concerned whether or not we should.

With you there Eastie, that article depressed me a bit. We have a well stocked midfield of mediocre, mad and untried players. We could try free up a bit of space, Petrov has given us as good as he can, but there is no comparison between him and Parker.

Get Nzogbia , Parker , Given and Ireland back playing. we have the basis of a good team with a few tweaks  here and there with the youth coming in .  and to be honest , is not going to cost alot of money.

That's the thing - it's hard top judge who we want/need until we understand what, if anything, McLeish can get out of the players who were unsettled under Houllier.  Which is probably why we haven't seen any activity yet as Mcleish himself will have the same uncertainty.

According to Wikipedia (I know) he signed a three and a half year deal from Newcastle in January 2009, taking it to July 2012 so only 12 months left
