Paul Montgomery is a top scout. And has a fantastic reputation. He might have a few players in mind for Mcleish. He was the scout who "found" Drogba - Malouda ......

Alex McLeish has wish Grant-ed
Daily and Sunday Express 01:59

Eh? Have these guys joined Villa, not drogba etc, the scout?

Ye sorry the link is not working. The Sunday Express are reporting that a compensation "Package" has been arranged enabling Mcleish`s staff to come to Villa. This includes Paul Montgomery .........

Why would we want Bendtner? - he's got a terrible attitude and his football ain't up to much. Gabby is a good back-up to Bent in a 4-5-1 with Delfouneso and Weimann as back up. The only guy I'd buy right now (that we can afford) re strikers is Kalinic.
If Downing goes, get the money in full; no pt-x's.

well arsenal are in talks with us now about downing, player plus cash 15 million plus bentnar would be a great deal imo

Given a choice between £15m + Bentdner or £12m straight cash, I'd take the later.

youd take 3 million less just not to have bendtner?

Yes, that is how shit I think Bendtner is. In fact, I don't even think he is that good.

Eastie, can I ask why you mention the UEFA probe to city on the previous page, despite me directly replying to your first post saying they are going to investigate? Are you a kind of from your bedroom SSN wannabe presenter? Simply repeat old news in different guises continuously until something real happens, then turn on the CAPS?

Agreed EffDee...can't see the attraction of Bendtner at all. If we gonna sell Downing and another club wants him enough let them pay the going price...which we can then use to get the players we prefer, not someone else's cast off/makeweight!
And again....we've got great youngsters...let's use them FFS! Fonz, Albrighton, Clarky and Bannan have all been blooded and made good contributions last season...let's step that up a little more this season...give them more play time when we can, and introduce a few more like Gardner and Weimann.

Didn't see your post ozzjim - you have my humble apologies !

Although my information is they may investigate , they haven't even met yet so by saying they are going to is somewhat jumping the gun is it not?

I'd sell Downing for £20m, buy N'Zog, Given and Parker with the money. If we have any money over and he wants a striker i would rather we go after Sturridge more than Bentdner or Defoe tbh.

I would rather we buy another wide player though with AYoung and Downing possibly going.

Would love Canales on loan though.

I'd take £15m & Bendtner for Downing.

I would see Sturridge as a much more effective partner to Bent than Bendtner...if we could sign up N'Zogbia as a really direct attacking wide player and have Albrighton as the out and out winger we'd have more variety in our play...they could swap as Young+Downing did but more effectivley cos of the way they play. Parker controlling the middle would be a dream!

I can see Downing ending up at Arsenal, Nzogbia going to Liverpool and we end up with SWP or Adam Johnson (if he wants to leave Citeh).
Bendtner and his pink boots can stay away from V.P. not good enough in my book.

Lifted from VT as the General doesn't seem to post on here anymore

General Krulak here:

1. "Sell to buy"...that is a perennial question. As you have seen from the beginning of Randy's time at the Club, we have not always had a sell to buy requirement. At the same time, if you don't look hard at players and the overall wage bill, a Club can get into real financial difficulties. This is the reason you see Clubs like ManU selling key players...trying to keep competitive and still manage the wage structure. So, at the end of the day, it has much more to do with the wage bill than it does with transfer fees.

2. I will not be going to Hong Kong but Randy might. His time is pretty compact so it would have to be a quick turnaround for him.

3. ZodiakIronFist: There is no question that the loan market can be very beneficial from several standpoints and we are always looking to see if there is a player out there who can benefit the Club.

4. Stephen Ireland: There is no question that he can be a very good player for the Club. I do know that Stephen has sat down with our Manager and had a very good talk. We believe he can be a real plus for us and want him to step up to his potential.

So is he saying we are operating on a sell to buy then ?

Sounds to me like he's saying we have a sell to buy policy in terms of wages but not in terms of transfer fees, although some of that issue may already have been worked on this summer. Fair enough really. I suppose each deal would be taken on its own merits, age of player and whether we might get a sell on, how badly we need that player etc. Bent we needed badly so were willing to pay a big transfer fee and quite large wages, but it sounds like we are more likely to sign a good young player for a big fee but reasonable wages than an above average oldish player on a bosman free and astronomical wages.

Nothing to stop Arsenal buying N'Zogbia if Downing went to Liverpool. We have to sign N'Zogbia before we decide where Downing's going.

Wenger was looking at him , a couple of seasons ago ( No , I dont have the source)

UefA may probe city's £400m sponsorship deal as it's been revealed the owner of etihad is the brother of the city owner- may be interesting .

It was obvious , something like that ..

Bendtner is 23 good in the air, good on the ball and got attitude. Think he is perfect to play with Bent. 15m and Bendtner ? yes please ......
This is Niklas Bendter of Arsenal you are speaking of?

There must be another one. He struts around the pitch chewing gum trying to look hard, when he is just shit - is that the attitude you speak off?

Bendtner is not alone in thinking he is it. But he has confidence and is good in front of goal. He will have good re-sale value and if there was an opportunity to have him i think he could  do well for us .......

We'll have to disagree, he makes a lot of misses before he puts one away. IMO he is terrible.

Bendtner's domestic goalscoring record is marginally better than Carlton Cole's having played most of that time in a signifcantly better and creative team. Now, he's 23, so he could be better with application and attitude. I just don't see it myself. He's got all the tools to be a very good player, and at 6'5" he's certainly got the size to be a very good target man. Whether he will or not is as much in his head as it is in his ability.
