If we are to sign a new striker I'd like it to be someone who is neither Defoe or Bentdner.

Both are a step down on what we have (Bent and Gabby respectively).

I would agree neither are as good as Bent but in my opinion both are better than Gabby.........

Defoe is a far better finisher than gabby but Defoe and bent didn't work at spurs- I'm not sure a striker is a target at the moment.

As for bendtner not a bad player and again I agree better than gabby and heskey.

The only thing I like about Defoe is how direct he is, gets the ball straight out his feet and smashe's it early, apart from that he's an over rated little knob, he's losing his sharpness aswell and is'nt anywhere near as good as Bent, also already proven that they can't work together, no thanks.

I'd be chuffed if we can get Bendtner as part of a deal with Arsenal, i think he'd be great as a partner for Bent. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one.

Really? Never rated him myself rather go for someone like kevin doyle
Wolves want £12m. No ta.

He's definately worth £12m, he's excellent. I'm not sure he is what we need though, not sure he and Bent would work that well. I actually think Gabby will work well with Bent if we play with 2 strikers. And if we do play with 2 strikers we will need to buy a decent one as back up, but i would suggest another goalscorer, which Doyle is not. I don't want Bendtner either though because he is a twat.

His top flight record is 20 goals in 96 games, no way would I fork out £12m for that sort of goalscoring record.

arsenal have made a straight cash bid , no other player. Involved for downing
When, oh when are you going to realise that "Sky Sports understands" means fuck all?

It's a fair point, but also worth mentioning that 58 of those 96 appearances have been as sub.

Sorry dave, I was under the impression this was the transfer rumour and speculation thread- so therefore as sky had it as breaking news about arsenal bidding for downing I find it relevant- of course it's not official but may be true.

In fact, when they say "understands" it's pretty much fabrication.

Lot of talk about strikers but I cant see one coming in unless we can find a buyer in the Middle east/China for Heskey. If we could, how about Kalinic from Blackburn? Unsettled at Blackburn, still fairly young and wouldnt cost that much. I read they(Blackburn) dont particulary want to sell as they think he could come good but he didnt play all that much last season.

Strange, your post above seems to suggest that it both was official and was true.

Paul Montgomery is a top scout. And has a fantastic reputation. He might have a few players in mind for Mcleish. He was the scout who "found" Drogba - Malouda ......

Exactly, they are trying to make stories, it's a bit quiet at the mo and some jumped up SSN journo has made it up to fil air-time. They never say where they got this understanding from. Same as 'someone close to the player....', whatever.

Lifted from VT as the General doesn't seem to post on here anymore

General Krulak here:

1. "Sell to buy"...that is a perennial question. As you have seen from the beginning of Randy's time at the Club, we have not always had a sell to buy requirement. At the same time, if you don't look hard at players and the overall wage bill, a Club can get into real financial difficulties. This is the reason you see Clubs like ManU selling key players...trying to keep competitive and still manage the wage structure. So, at the end of the day, it has much more to do with the wage bill than it does with transfer fees.

2. I will not be going to Hong Kong but Randy might. His time is pretty compact so it would have to be a quick turnaround for him.

3. ZodiakIronFist: There is no question that the loan market can be very beneficial from several standpoints and we are always looking to see if there is a player out there who can benefit the Club.

4. Stephen Ireland: There is no question that he can be a very good player for the Club. I do know that Stephen has sat down with our Manager and had a very good talk. We believe he can be a real plus for us and want him to step up to his potential.

So is he saying we are operating on a sell to buy then ?
