I think Parker would cost more than £6m.

By the way, I thought the General didn't comment on playing matters.
Your value Rip?
Would we go to 10?
Compared with 20 for Downing, 6 certainly seems like chicken feed...but then I've never been a Downing fan!
Not my value, I just think Sullivan and Gold will try to squeeze the pips out of it.
£7m-ish would be fair.

I'd pay it. He'd be essential in our midfield at the moment. A far better option than Petrov and with the experience to oversee the changing of the guard to the likes of Gardner, Delph and Bannan etc.
Probably an automatic choice for Captain too and a natural leader by example.

I can actually see this happening. It seems like the sort of thing McLeish would do and he's the sort of player he likes but has never had the resources to get one of that calibre.

Delph and Parker are two of a very formidable midfield three that we might see with the third "playmaker" being Ireland if he can get his shit together. Or perhaps another new player if he cant.
With Makoun, Gardner, Bannan, Herd and Petrov (and Clark as another potential holding midfielder) providing back up and alternatives.

Do it! Do it now!

Re Parker, can't help think we're being used as a stalking horse for Spurs.  Hope I'm wrong.

Good old Mr Whelan on the hard sell.  Thought Nzogbia was older than mid twenties.

Spurs have Huddlestone, Sandro and Palacios who play a similar role. Parker is as good or better than those but I can see them spending money elsewhere.

Aye but it's Spurs, they've always needed a million midfielders to play 'the Spurs way'.....

well arsenal are in talks with us now about downing, player plus cash 15 million plus bentnar would be a great deal imo

I think that Arsenal being interested in Downing is the biggest load of shit I have ever heard.

bentnar is shit, if he's shit at the best footballing in the team in the PL then he'll be shit here

If the Arsenal interest is genuine, we should try and get Walcott as part exchange.  A front three of him and Gabby either side of Bent would scare the shit (copyright UsualSuspect) out of defences.

THE Seasiders have allowed DJ Campbell to miss their training camp in Portugal to sort out his future.

The striker asked for permission to stay at home and is expected to leave the club in the next couple of weeks.

QPR are the frontrunners to sign the 29-year-old, although Fulham and Aston Villa are also thought to have expressed an interest.

ALEX McLeish is continuing to monitor Scott Parker’s transfer situation – but the chances of Villa swooping for the popular West Ham midfielder are remote.

McLeish will not be drawn into a bidding war for Parker and any progress could depend on the sale of Stewart Downing, which is currently not an option for Villa.

Contrary to reports yesterday, Villa have not received – let alone rejected – an Arsenal offer for Downing to add to Liverpool’s two failed bids.

Nor are the club expecting a transfer request because Downing and his people are believed to understand it would make no difference to Villa’s stance.

Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia is yet to be seriously discussed by McLeish and the board, although Downing’s fate might have a bearing on that if a replacement is needed.

McLeish and soon-to-be new Villa scout Paul Montgomery are known admirers of N’Zogbia, who they nearly signed for Blues last year, but Villa would refuse to pay over the odds for the 25-year-old French winger.

Latics owner Dave Whelan could inflate the price way above £10 million after admitting N’Zogbia will almost certainly be sold with two years left on his contract.

Parker has been on Villa’s radar since as long ago as last summer when former manager Martin O’Neill was interested in the ex-Charlton, Chelsea and Newcastle man.

Back then Hammers owners David Sullivan and David Gold were demanding around £15 million for Parker who went on to shine despite the club’s woeful relegation.

Now, despite being contracted until 2014, the 30-year-old is available for half that price with West Ham resigned to losing him because of their Championship status.

Villa have carried on tracking Parker, who was last season’s Football Writers’ Association’s footballer of the year, following his all-action performances.

But there has been no bid from Villa for Parker, nor is one imminent, amid suggestions there could be a scramble for his signature.

The Hammers have reportedly accepted a £10 million offer from Turkish club Fenerbache, but Parker rejected the advances because he wants to stay in England.

Although Tottenham were widely expected to provide Parker with the opportunity to remain in London, they were reportedly put off by his £70,000 per week wage demands.

The salary package would also be a stumbling block for Villa if they decided to pursue their tentative interest in the revitalised England international.

Chairman Randy Lerner is determined to get the club’s wage-bill under control and is unlikely to sanction a move to boost an already well-stocked midfield department.

Villa will have captain Stiliyan Petrov, Jean Makoun, Fabian Delph and Stephen Ireland challenging for central places, along with young hopefuls Barry Bannan, Gary Gardner, Jonathan Hogg and Chris Herd.

Lerner is prepared to pay £3.5 million for Shay Given with the 35-year-old Manchester City goalkeeper set to complete his move to Villa Park this week.

But having been stung during the Martin O’Neill era, Villa are reluctant to pay transfer fees for others with little sell-on potential, hence their wariness about pursuing Parker.

Rumours Villa are preparing a bid for Tottenham’s Scottish international defender Alan Hutton, who played for McLeish at Rangers, are wide of the mark.

Villa hope left-back Stephen Warnock’s return to the first team fold will free up Luke Young to resume right-back duties with Habib Beye and Eric Lichaj providing cover.

I'd sell Downing for £20m, buy N'Zog, Given and Parker with the money.

Yeah so would I.  Then maybe sell them for the £25-£30 million they would cost in the real world.

Why is it as fans we add 25% onto the value of any players we're selling and knock 25% off those we hope we'll buy?  Is N'Zogbia's value really less than Downings to the tune of the equivalent of Parker & Given?
