Perhaps then we, too, could have a site like this:

http://www.evertontime.com/
[/quote]

That site is class. Just goes to show how little we have to moan about compared to some teams.

No it's not
i think most of us already know where we stand with the approaches for Martinez and AM.  Average managers used to surviving (or not) on a limited budget. You don't go and buy a Vauxhall vectra if you're planning to enter formula 1.
For fucks sake, give the guy a chance. Signing Darren Bent wasn't a Vauxhall move from the board.
No. It was more of a part exchange as Bent was bought with the Milner money.

Unless things change in a radical way, we'll have to assume that Mr Lerner Sir is a remixed Doug Ellis.

If so, that's a real shame after the big strides we made in the first 3 years.

Yeah, spending fortunes on mediocre players that we've had to give away or sell for fraction of their purchase price. Obviously there are the three exceptions, Young, Milner and Downing we have or have to sell to recoup a small bit of the hugh transfer fees we payed for Marlon, Nigel, Petrov et al...
We have a nucleus of a good side and I have no doubt that we'll get the players in to settle the club down and move onwards.

The nucleus of a good side???

I hope that's tongue in cheek
.

No it's not in cheek.

With the addition of Given, a good young backup keeper, N'Zogbia and someone like Bentley we will be a good side. We are not going to be competing with Citeh, Chelsea, Manure and Les Arse, but we are more than capable giving the rest of the sides a good game. Look at what Citeh have spent, and look where they finished, throwing money at it won't get instant success. Get real.

Get real???

and you come out with Bentley ?!?!

keep taking the tablets

We have a nucleus of a good side
That's not a lot to show for 5 years and however many tens of millions is it?

We had a nucleaus of a good side, I'm not convinced we do anymore.

Well, to me I work up the middle of the side and see what's there:-
Keeper - no, not much to say positive there right now.
CB - depends on whether Horatio can get Dunne and Collins back to their 09/10 form.  If he can, and you also factor in Carlos and Clark, then there's certainly talent there.
CM - Petrov is showing his age, but Makoun has ability and we have Delph and Bannan emerging.  I'd say a signing needed, but still decent enough as is.
ATT - Bent and Gabby are both established and good players.

So yeah, I'd say the nucleus is there.

Things are not looking good at the moment are they?

nope

as of now

keeper - guzan, marshall
right back - L Young, Lichaj, Beye
centre halves - cuellar, Dunne, Collins, Clark,
left back - warnock,
Wings - Albrighton, Downing
Centre - Petrov, Makoun, Delph, Bannan, Ireland, Hogg
Forwards - Bent, Gabby, Fonz, Heskey

manager Alex McLeish

throw in downing almost certainly off and cuellar Id say is likely to go.

The above without those two leaving is a relegation facing squad imo, throw in McLeish into the mix and there is very little to get enthused about. The players that we wouldnt mind leaving - Beye, Warnock, Petrov, Ireland, Heskey seem to have no takers thus far - just our best players.

What ambitious players will want to come anyway, surely Nzogbia will run a mile? McLeish needs to get players in and quick. Lord knows what Darren Bent is thinking.

Once some good players are brought in at least some bit of optimism might surface but all signs for AVFC arent positive ones at present.

400 plus pages on this thread, and what? nothing! I'm bored of this transfer speculation - it's almost like MON is still in charge. You'd think after all the negativity in the last couple of months that the club would've made a big signing by now to boost morale especially after AY's departure. I still haven't renewed my season ticket and won't until the club shows some ambition. You hear no upbeat statements whatsoever from the club's hierarchy - the PR is abysmal. Be interesting to see the level of season ticket sales. Once again we'll start the season 'unprepared' rant over!

You'll probably never find out as the club will bullshit that the sales are 'buoyant.'

Perhaps the 2 are linked ? The more ST's the more we'll spend.I've put my £700 odd in, I'm sure Randy'll pile in with his £50 million soon. He tends to most years.

I agree the pr at the club is really poor- there is a really depressing air to things at the moment and we need a couple of quality signings to give things a lift- we always seem slow off the blocks on transfers every summer and I'm sure Sunderland have the right idea by getting their business done before pre season training.

Come on villa ,let's get some deals done soon and lift the gloom .

As it stands at the moment following Ashley Young's sale, the club's net investment in the squad over the last 5 years is approx. £65m. I suspect that increases in ticket prices and matchday revenue would cover most that, so thanks for your contribution.

Feel free not to mention the fact that RL pays for the 70mill increase in wages we have seen since his takeover? Or does that not fit into our simplistic view of the world?
