Not many plodders there. :)
Whilst highly unlikely if we got those targets we could have a front 4 (if you like) of N'zogbia, Canales and Bent with Diego pulling the strings in front of two box to box midfielders with Albrighton and Gabby as options from the bench. An enticing thought but, yes, unlikely.

Mazrim , stop giving me palpitations

Do not understand £65k he has not played for a year ? He should get a payment off City and be paid £40k with add ons according to his possible injury disposition .......
Ridiculous wages.
He's simply not worth paying that amount, especially as we're supposed to be cutting back.

Only twats boast about spending $12,000 in a club that isn't ''standard'' N'Zogbia http://yfrog.com/kid7ephj

If we're gonna give Warnock another chance I'd be up for leaving left back and using Clark as cover. He needs experience and he's not totally ready for centre half yet.

Just hope we can quickly push through the Nzogbia deal before the likes of Newcastle and Sunderland start showing serious interest. He might like the ambition that Sunderland are showing with all their shiny new players or Newcastle's French revolution. Get it done A-Mac.

Ambition? Or starting to spend a bit of the £40m+ they've had in recently?

Does worry me about Nzogbia`s Newcastle history. Get him signed and ready for pre-season. Robinson - Canales - Diego - 6 weeks to kick off ??? ........

Agreed Fletch.  If the wage bill is an issue but we're OK on transfer funds Foster or a younger keeper on lower wages makes more sense.  Even if the fee is higher, chances are they'll retain some resale value.

I'm not really a given fan. Great shot stopper but not great at organising a defence. Which judging by last season we need someone strong in between the posts. Add to that his injury history I'm not sure it's the best of signings. Especially for that kind of wage.

Canales? No chance.  Diego? No chance.  N'zogbia? Yes please.  Given? Go on then..

Sums it up in my opinion.

I don't see what the big deal is about wages. First, he's a PL player and they are all pretty much on stupid money. He's not going to take a massive pay cut wherever he goes. Neither would Ben Foster expect to stay on the same shit wages he is probably on at Blues. I want Foster too, but if he's going to cost ridiculous money because the noses are a bunch of wankers, plus a big wage hike then he may not be the best option. This will be Given's last club and if he stays 5 years then that's good going for a Villa player given recent events. Finally, if it is him, and they come to an agreement on salary it's very unlikely it will what he's on now and it likely fits within whatever structure they've decided to set in place.

Shay Given's issue is his health. If he can pass fit, and stay fit, and I realise they are both big if's then he'll be a very good signing indeed.

£5 million on Given is dead money, in so far as if/when he moves on in 3/4/5 years there will be no return. Yes, football isn't purely about numbers (unless you're Villadawg) and if he does well for us during that time not many would quibble.

But on a wage of £65k a week he'd want to near as dammit one of our best players, and in all honesty he wouldn't be in that category.

In contrast, someone like Foster might cost more like £8-10 million, but he won't depreciate in value to the same extent Given would. He might even increase in value. If he does remain with us for 8-10 years, chances are he'll have done well and we'll have got our moneys worth. Win win.

Unlike Given, he'd also be making a step up. I'm sure Given's a good pro, but part of him must think if he takes a move like this his career is on the slide. Foster will be joining a bigger club, on bigger wages. But even if he receives an increase on his current salary, he's still likely to be on way less than Given, most likely £45-50k tops.
