I could see McLeish going back to Spurs for Bentley.
Plus there was some poncey Ranger Rover with "DB 7" plate near Villa park a couple of weeks ago.
In fairness, it would be a decent squad option. He might play more here than he did for Blose because we're set up better for him.

Anyway, not what I'd want ideally but a possible cheapish option to back up Albrighton and N'Zogbia (if Downing goes) with Bannan and Carruthers on stand by. I'd rather Delph was central but he could play wide left comfortably too.

I have no problem with Etherington, you need strength in depth after all

I hate his smug fucking face.

Especially when he was signing for Spurs wearing that ridiculous crevat.

Doubtless he'd squeak that 'it was always his dream to play for Villa.'

Odious little runt.

So would I eastie. I think N'Zogbia is an excellent player and comparable to Young in the attacking sense. Its his work rate the other way that we'll miss.

As for Given, as I've said, I think he's an excellent player and a step up over Brad, who I thought cost us as many goals as he saved last season. However, my concern is his wages. I'd rather spend more on the fee for Foster and pay less in the wages over the long run.

One of the most striking things about Villas-Boas' scouting report on Newcastle (other than the hilarious "Babayaro 1vs.1 - easy") was that he said N'Zogbia works extremely hard defensively. I know it was a few years ago, but he has got less sulky off the pitch, so it stands to reason his work-rate would be the same or improved.

Maybe, but I think Young's endless running will be a miss that needs to be compensated easlewhere in the midfield. I think McLeish will create a work ethic that was perhaps lacking last season anyway.

Do you have a link to that scouting report by the way, I wouldn't mind a read of it.

Wasn't there a suggestion recently that McLeish didn't want Bentley and the Blose board signed him, hence him not figuring not all that much or was that just down to injury?

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01927/art18-1_1927022a.pdf . The detail they go into is remarkable.

We'll need work ethic, but more than that we need players fit and quick enough to press the ball hard for a good long time. Our pressing hasn't really been up to scratch since SGT Mk I.

It was? Even better then.

Albrighton, N'zgobia and try and convince Downing to stay until January. That will do for the wide options.

Bentley was complete shite at SHA so stay clear of him.
