Jaysus, a League cup would do nicely, 16 years is a long time.

Personally i'd give him a free transfer to get him off the wage bill.
Know what you mean, but it ain't that easy is it? - if we said "OK Stevie, you can eff off and get a new contract somewhere else for nought" I think his people would be looking for his contract to be paid up.
My approach would be to offer him in part-ex for a player we really want, with his value being nominal. This would mean that the recipient-club could honour his doubtless exorbitant wages. He'd probably play well at Spurrrrrrrrrrrrrs: why not go in with a cheeky one for Walker with Ireland thrown in to sweeten the deal (more like poison, but you know what I mean); might help them to deal with Modric's exit.

That would be a good way to cut our losses I agree. Depends who's willing to take a chance on him. His reputation for causing trouble is going to put most clubs off. maybe even Redknapp.

OK, as far as we know Ireland is on £60k a week, right?  And was it a 4 year contract he signed, which means 3 years left?  That's an expected £9m to be paid to him from this point forward.  He dropped his wages to come here, but Man City had to pay the balance so he'd be expecting us to do the same.  Let's say we have a potential buyer at £3m and offering him £30k a week.  That means we'd need to pay him about £4.5m to get him out the door, meaning a £1.5m 'spend' when balanced with the incoming fee.  A lot better than £9m, isn't it?

I think our problem is clubs will know we want shot of him and will have to pay somethign to do so, so they'll offer minimal money and relatively low wages as they know our other option paying him another £9m to do nothing for us.

I fucking hate football sometimes.

Surely it would be "cheaper" to hire a contract killer for Ireland ? I am sure Mcleish will know a few from the Gorbles in Glasgow Ha ..............

Thing is, if Ireland came out and said "in my defence i'm just a brainless idiot who speaks before they think" then most villa fans would forgive him even if they wouldn't forget. But you just know he probably still thinks he's in the right and will spend pre-season letting himself go instead of trying to keep in-shape to impress Mcliesh. A clean slate is one thing but it has to be from both sides.

16 years next march. We are going to struggle to win the 2011 cup. Unless you can get your hands on Dr. Emmett Brown's Dolorean.

see what the woman who dresses as Little Jimmy Krankie is doing.

Would that mean you were gay, straight, or a paedophile?
